Prices per tree 2c for broad leaf 2c for shrubs 3c for conifers. Plan now to plant after oats for high survival.
Mr and Mrs Robert Ele Burke of Stromsburg Nebraska celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary with an open house at the Methodist Church parlors in Stromsburg on Sunday January 18 from 2 00 to 4 30 PM.
The Commodity Credit Corporation warns that warehouse and farm stored wheat loans and purchase agreements for 1952 will be available until January 31, 1953. Applications should be filed at the local PMA Office for loan completion and certification by a County Committee member. Wheat must be stored in a weatherproof bin with not more than 14 percent moisture. Polk County loan rate is $2.29 per bushel for No 1 wheat.
Wally Lind serving with the Army in Germany enjoyed Christmas Day in a Stuttgart area home. In Davenport Avidni Mrs Hof Ostberg and guests recalled Irvin Ficken's former daughter and husband Mr and Mrs Irvin Ficken. The 30th wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Ostberg was celebrated with gifts and a television served luncheon
Mrs. Fred Frederickson of Swede Home died Friday after a stroke. She leaves two daughters Mrs. Axel Anderson of Polk and Mrs. Everett Anderson of Stromsburg and a son Clayton of Denver. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Swede Home Church with burial in Swede Home cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Harold Kohtz announce a son born Sunday at York General Hospital. A five month old baby boy named James Ray arrived January 5 to reside with Mr and Mrs John Adams of Hastings. Mrs Adams is the former Goldie Fossberg of Polk. Mr and Mrs Ross Goethe of Oakland California are parents of daughter Patricia A weighing 7 pounds born January 1. Mrs Goethe will be remembered as Vandeline Bush.
Mrs Josephine Samuelson hosted a supper Friday with Mr and Mrs Ben Stromberg and Linda Stromsburg plus Louise Samuelson and two Samuelson families. Clarence Peterson and Robert Sigler guests joined Oscar Johnsons for Sunday afternoon. Deen Myers and daughters dined with his parents in Phillips. Jerold Ruzicka group dined at six. St Vincents dinner hosted by Father Howe and several locals followed by an evening of cards. Flora Ostberg visited aunt Mrs Flodman in Wahoo Saturday.
County Judge L. M. Merrick released 1952 figures showing 110 criminal cases tried, 84 estates guardianships and adoptions, 33 marriage licenses, 118 delayed birth registrations, 24 civil cases, with $3,552.83 in fees and $1,304 in fines collected plus $5,922.80 in inheritance taxes.
Mr and Mrs Charles Stromberg of Lincoln hosted a Sunday dinner honoring Raymond Sundberg and Mrs Harvey Sundberg on their birthdays and the wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Calmar Johnson. Guests included Mr and Mrs Raymond Sundberg, Mr and Mrs Harvey Sundberg and their sons, and Mr and Mrs Calmar Johnson and their daughters.
Mr and Mrs D C Morris were honored on New Year’s Eve for their Fortieth wedding anniversary with an oyster supper. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Lee Morris and family, Floyd Bittinger, Mr and Mrs Gordon Kealiber of Stevens Point Wisconsin, and a Ruby setting necklace for Mrs Morris and a tie clasp for Mr Morris.
An elderly Polk resident, Andy Carlson, led a 1952 beautification drive at Polk Cemetery northeast of Polk. Volunteers including Frank Cogagen, Ira Spear, Jarry Stevens, S J Harless, Albert Sundberg, Leo Harless, Glen Stevens contributed labor and funds starting with Carlson’s $25. Plans include a Memorial Cemetery section with walls, a Rest area, and a Lord's Prayer plaque funded by a spring fundraising campaign. Carlson, a Polk pioneer, long served on the cemetery board and area school boards.
Kenny Werner scored seven points in the final quarter as Polk edged Benedict 43 to 42 on Benedict’s floor. Polks late stall helped, but fouling and Holmes absence nearly doomed the comeback. Osceola and Benedict losses followed, while Art and Mrs. DuLaney visited the Sealey home.
