Polk County Commissioners Meet in Osceola February 1968 Session

Polk County Nebraska officials convened in regular session with Commissioners Ingalls and Dahlin present. Claims were audited, salaries set, and warrants issued for General Fund and Extension Service, with items covering clerks, supplies, travel, fuel, and maintenance. The Polk County Soil & Water Conservation District annual report was reviewed and approved.

Nome Society Meeting at Mae Johnson Home

The Home Society met at Mae Johnson's home with Anna Eisler as hostess. President Myrtle Johnson led the business meeting. Cards entertained during the social hour. Washington's birthday theme used in decorations and favors. Myrtle Johnson won the hostess gift.

Trinity Lutheran Church Polk Nebraska Service and Ash Wednesday

The Trinity Lutheran Church in Polk Nebraska schedules a 9 45 A M Sunday service with an 11 00 A M catechetical class on Wednesdays and an Ash Wednesday service with Holy Communion at 7 30 P M on February 28. Catechetical class continues Thursday February 29 at 5 45 P M.

Local Supper Honors Lynette Birthday in Polk

Mrs Ivan Johnson hosted a supper Monday for Lynette's birthday. Guests included Mr and Mrs Wayne Creech and family, Mr Clarence Creech and Martha. Mrs Ollie Johnson visited Stromsburg Friday with Mrs Earl Johnson. Mr and Mrs Clarence Bodine were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs Hilmer Jones.

Polk County Adopts No-Funded Community Shelter Plan

The board approves a resolution for Polk County to join a no-funded Community Shelter plan. The motion, seconded by Ingalls, passes. A report on High School Tuition Fund expenditures by the County Superintendent is approved. The meeting adjourns to March 5, 1968. Dale Frizzell and J Homer Ingalls sign.

Freedom Now Bonds Campaign Encourages Worker Payroll Plans

President Johnson urges sacrifices for Vietnam and freedom thanking supporters and promoting regular Savings Bonds purchases. He notes new Freedom Shares paying 4.74 percent to maturity and redeemable after one year, available one for one with Savings Bonds through Payroll Savings or Bond-a-Month plans.

Half Acre Divertions Help Prevent Rural Intersection Crashes

Four youths died when a car and pickup collided near Stromsburg at a blind intersection. A plan to divert half an acre at rural road corners would improve visibility by about 208 feet, with ASCS Polk County aiding land set aside and cost share programs for short grass cover.

Polk Area Social Notes Highlight Local Visits

Mrs Rodney Johnson and Jodi and Ronald Johnson and boys of Hardville spent Tuesday afternoon with Mrs Larry Coover and Badie. Thursday evening guests were Mr and Mrs Dick Hacless and family. Mrs Ernest Brockevelt visited Mrs Emory Cramer Friday afternoon. Dining hosts were Mr and Mrs Ostberg and families, plus Mr Robert Lindahl and Mrs Olga Graves. Saturday visitors included Darold Hoffman Verlin Widga and Everett Goeritzen. Coffee guests were Grant Johnson and Eidom Johnson of Osceola. Ivan Johnson and Julius Johnson hosted Osceola guests for Friday supper.
