Third Summer School Session Is Planned

Plans for the third session of summer school in Polk under Federal Title I are underway. The program adds a science course with project and activity work and expands to six weeks of individual help for students in grades one through six.

Superintendent Walter Nielsen announced that thirteen Polk faculty members have signed contracts for the next term. Dennis Cramer Injured in Phoenix Occupational Accident

Dennis Cramer, a former York resident and Salt River Power Project employee, was severely burned in a Phoenix incident on March 1. He underwent amputation of a left hand and right foot, with nurses reporting him resting calmly at St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix. He is the son of Cliff and Mrs Cramer of Geneva and a Polk High graduate of 1955.

Sunday School Class Visits Rest Homes

Seventh and Eighth grade Sunday School classes of Polk Methodist Church spent Sunday afternoon singing at Stromsburg Covenant and Osceola Samaritan Homes. They toured halls, offered devotions, and presented artificial plants to Mrs Bessie Green Mrs Bertha Binford Mrs Ella Shenk William Shostrom and Floyd Juars on. Nut cups made by teens were left for the Homes trays and at Osceola hospital. Lunch followed on the return trip to Stromsburg.

The bride elect's mother Mrs Raymond Hollstien of Lincon announces the engagement of Miss Sharon Hollstien to DeVern Lindholm. Miss Hollstien studies at the University of Nebraska while Mr Lindholm, son of Mr and Mrs Wayne Lindholm of Lincoln, serves in the Armed Forces.

Big Blue Basin Meetings Held In March State Water Plan

March meetings on land and water needs of the Big Blue River Basin will be in Aurora at the 4H Club Building on March 8 and in Seward at Dale's Steak House on March 14. Registration 9:00 A.M. Educational program by University of Nebraska experts and others will cover basin facts, hydrology, floods, and water resource law with a Q and A segment.

Area Methodist Youth Meet In Polk Sunday

Members from Stromsburg Osceola Fairview Swede Plain Palmer and Central City churches gathered in Polk for the biannual Loup Sub district Youth Division meeting. Officers elected for the year are President Gail Brandes Fairview Vice President Syd Widga Polk Secretary Becky Stevens Polk and Treasurer Steve Sterup Osceola. Mr and Mrs James Wilson Polk gave an illustrated talk titled Return of the Natives. Lunch by the host church followed.

At Polk High last Wednesday February 28 spectators saw a friendly yet debated basketball contest. The varsity rallied from a 29 26 halftime deficit to win 61 50 as sophomores earned over 100 dollars for their class fund and a cake sale boosted class spirit.

The Boxer Baby Beef 4-H Club met February 26 at Polk Community Hall. Members studied veterinary science, learned cattle communication, and practiced making an adjustable halter with rope.
