Polk Village and School Caucuses Set For Tuesday Night

Mr H E Warren longtime head of Polk Public Schools resigns after two years in the post and will not seek reappointment for the next term. His departure creates a vacancy on the faculty as Mrs Warren taught in the grades for the past two years. Warren did not disclose his future plans.

Basketball King and Queen Crowned for 1954 Season

King Verland Widga and Queen Kathy Holmes were crowned during halftime of Polk versus Gresham on February 16. Shirley Hahn crowned the Queen and Bob Renquist crowned the King, with attendants Carroll Shenk and Shirley Stevens nearby in front of a large red heart decor crafted by the Shop boys and Pep Club.

After five years reporting local news for the Polk Progress Mrs. Chas. Lytle resigns this week. She departs with her sister in law for a month of travel to visit family in Maryland Newport R I and York. Eldon Lucille Johnson replaces her on the staff beginning next week to handle community news and calls for tips.

Polk cagers reach district tournament semifinals in Monroe by defeating Silver Creek 76 to 60 and Duncan 69 to 29. Werner Widga and Shenk led scoring while Denny Cramer played through a sore throat. Eight players scored as four hit double figures.

Baptist Church Commemorates 70 Years in Polk

The Baptist Church of Polk marks its 70th anniversary this Sunday February 28 with three services a basket lunch at noon and an afternoon anniversary luncheon served by the Ladies Missionary Society. Speakers include Rev R M Bailey Mead Rev Dick Anderson and Rev John Bergeson Platte Valley Baptist Missionary. The church organized February 16 1884 with twelve charter members.
