Weather Bureau thanks Polk farmer for salvaged radiosonde

Ed Benson received a reply from the Weather Bureau acknowledging the return of a radiosonde instrument found on his farm. The message states the instrument or remaining parts are salvageable for reuse in gathering upper air data used in forecasting and storm warnings. The bureau thanks him for his assistance.

Swede Home News Social Visits Highlight Week

Mr and Mrs Frank Thelander visited Wednesday afternoon with Mrs Helena Lundstrom and family. Several households hosted guests including Mr and Mrs Alfred Yungdahl and Sheila and JoAnn Carlson. Camp Fire Girls Close March of Dimes Drive

Camp Fire Girls report a February 15 campaign total of 302.43 raised for the March of Dimes. Thanks go to clubs lodges churches and to Mr Willett Mr Neuhaus and American Legion members for their effort. Any late contributions may be sent to the Camp Fire Girls with Polk credited. Next meeting set for February 28 at Marcia Johnson home.

Community Weekend Visits Across Strewnburg Area

Local residents enjoyed weekend visits spanning several towns. C M Bennett and family hosted in Lincoln after time with son Donald Bennett. Kathy and Jean Ericson stayed with relatives in David City and returned home Sunday. Alden Johnson of Gothenburg visited in Polk en route home from Omaha. Betty and Dorothy Dahlgren accompanied each other back from Omaha. Multiple families hosted guests including the Fultons, the Hansens, and the Jensens while other locals, such as Clarence Munn and Ida Green's circle, were seen in Central City and Marquette.

Sondra Hill Wins Blue Ribbon in 4-H Speech Contest

Sondra Hill, 11, daughter of Mr and Mrs Glen Hill, earned a blue ribbon in Fremont in the District 4-H public speaking contest on Thursday. Eleven contestants competed. Hill spoke on The Fifth Commandment as her topic.

American Legion Auxili ary meeting notes

The American Legion Auxiliary met February 17 at the Legion Club Room with Mrs. Oscar Jones presiding. Members planned a March party, ordered new kitchen dishes, and donated quilt blocks and carpet rags for the hospital. A $10 March of Dimes and $5 Heart Association gift were approved. Lunch funds went to the Little Red School Fund. 24 members attended.
