A breezy warm day lifts Main Street activity with window washers, bees, and motorcycles before a late afternoon cold front clears the scene. A corvair joke and a Total breakfast critique appear in playful local banter about taste and magazines.

Rodney Morace Warner 17 and Victoria Ann Cockle 17 of Stromsburg obtained a marriage license. The couple plans a future ceremony pending legal age verification.
The Baptist Mission Circle met February 9 at 2 00 pm in the church. A nominating committee was appointed consisting of Mrs Wilbur Whitacre Mrs Orlie Miller and Mrs Willard Lindburg. A song Satisfied was sung by Mrs Roy Glasser Jr Mrs Gene Wood and Mrs Dwayne Miller. The program speaker was Mrs Evelyn Peterson of Trinity Baptist at Lincoln who spoke of victorious Christian living. Hostesses were Mrs Gene Wood Mrs Larry Killion and Mrs Emma Anderson. Guest hostess was Mrs A EB Swanson. Mrs Olga Graves of Central City and daughter Mrs James Benson of Grand Island and Mrs Dean Ostberg were visitors and lunch guests.
Leand Bowers 63 died unexpectedly Monday evening at his home north of Polk. Funeral services tentatively set for Thursday at Arborville Congregational Church. A lifelong Arborville resident, he moved north of Polk two years ago and is survived by his wife and son Kenneth. Obituary next week.
Polk Cubs snapped a string of losses with a 70-43 win over the Palmer Tigers and a 76-54 victory against Marquette. Steve Carlstrom led with 20 points and 14 rebounds, Norman Reckner added 14 points and 21 rebounds, while Dick Sealey had 10 points and 8 assists. The win over Palmer solidified second in Goldenrod standings. The Marquette game featured 17 Cubs players, 38 percent team field goal accuracy, and a 58 percent free-throw success. Next up, Polk heads to Central City for Class C district tournament first round action against St. Edward and Henderson-Genoa.
Mr and Mrs Edwin L Hamilton of Holdrege announce the engagement of their daughter Nancy to Eric Otte of Lincoln son of Mr and Mrs Ted J Otte of Polk. Nancy attends the University of Nebraska and previously Bethel College. Eric Otte is also a university student. An August 11 wedding is planned.
Week of February 7 to February 14 lists patients including Christine Jenkins Osceola Ruth Larson Stromsburg and others. Several were dismissed or transferred with numerous residents from Osceola Stromsburg Gresham Shelby Ulysses Polk and Waco.
At the Goldenrod Conference Dramatics Festival on February 9 Polk High placed fourth behind Genoa Palmer and Osceola. Students won and rated highly across Oral Interpretation of Prose Literature Television News Commentary Public Speaking and Poetry Reading. The one act play The Ghost at Punkin Holler won first among four plays with an excellent cast performance.
Mrs Lennis Lind entered Lincoln General Hospital on Monday for the admission. Mrs Hazel Halleck remains a patient at Lincoln General Hospital.
Army Specialist Larry W. Klingsporn 22, son of Mr and Mrs EB B Klingsporn of Polk, joined cold weather drill Frontier Assault with troops from the Alaskan Command and Royal Canadian Air Force, February 1 to 10. He is assigned to U S Army Alaska.
G. E. Ekstrand of Stromsburg announces the 1967 County Heart Fund drive organization. Campaign leaders include Polk American Legion Auxiliary and Shelby American Legion Auxiliary with district directors, Osceola and Stromsburg teams, and Future Homemakers of America aiding activities. The drive runs February with Heart Sunday February 26.
Mrs. Julia Maria Stromberg Miller 84 wife of Roy C. Miller 527 Beaver Ave died at 9 45 a m Saturday at Lincoln General Hospital from a fractured hip suffered Jan 2 She was born Jan 5 1883 in Varna Illinois married Dec 21 1905 they observed their 61st anniversary last December Funeral services are at 2 p m today at the Evangelical United Brothers Church with Rev Robert Enck officiating Burial will be Greenwood Cemetery Survivors include her husband a son Orville of Lincoln three daughters Opal Nixon Ruth Klinzman and Marjorie Cudaback nine grandchildren eight great grandchildren two brothers and five sisters The obituary notes several relatives and a long list of social attendees.
