Jo Ella Stromberg Chosen Nebraska Easter Seal Child

Governor Tiemann selects Jo Ella Stromberg an 11 year old Polk girl as Nebraska Easter Seal Child to aid crippled children. She survived a June 1965 accident and now walks with braces and a walker, active in 4 H and school, with support from family and community. A March 1 tea at the Governor’s Mansion marks her role and fundraising efforts in Polk County. Leilani Stohl visited Mary Sue Lindburg Thursday and Friday.

School and Village Caucus Set for February 25

The village of Polk and School District 72 announce caucuses next Tuesday evening at 8:00 in the grade school auditorium. Four candidates to fill two school board seats. then four candidates to fill two village board seats. Elections are scheduled for April 1.

Polk Cubs led 13 10 after the first quarter and never trailed as Steve Carlstrom scored 34 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Mark Wood added 11 points while Dob Neuhaus pulled 10 boards. Rex Richter led Marquette with 14 points in the loss.

Mabel Grimes Dies Rites Set For Friday

Mabel Swedenburg Grimes 81, formerly of Polk, died Sunday in Norwalk California. Funeral Friday at Swede Pain Church with Rev Deryl Reed officiating. Burial in Swede Plain cemetery. Wall Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include two sons William and Arthur Grimes of Grand Island, daughter Mrs Mabel Heninger of Norwalk, 13 grandchildren, one great grandchild, two sisters and a brother.
