The engagement of Connie Lee, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jones, to Lanny Ang, son of Mr and Mrs Stanford Ang of Polk, is announced. Connie is a Polk High School and Institute of Medical Technique graduate, employed at Seward Memorial Hospital. Lanny is a Polk High School graduate, former active duty service member, and works for Farmers Co op Oil Assn. of Polk. A May 3 wedding is planned.
The Polk Community Club will host a chili supper at 7:00 p.m. in the Polk Community Hall on Monday February 17. Members urge guests to attend as part of a drive to recruit new members. A short business meeting follows the meal.
Mrs Alice Eberhard, 60, died at York hospital on Tuesday February 11. Funeral services are set for Friday February 14 at the United Lutheran Church in Hampton. She is the mother of Mrs Neal Sandell of Polk.
The February 3 meeting of the Modern Millies included a lesson on selecting wood furniture by Mrs Neal Sandell and Mrs Virgil Tenniges. A club treasury was established and guest invitation and roll call procedures were approved. Mrs Ronald Foote served cherry tarts. The March 4 meeting will be at Mrs Owen Bedient's home and feature the lesson It s Yours It s an Estate.
Polk Cubs came from behind to beat the Osceola Bulldogs 67 59 on the local maples last Friday. Mike Lindburg scored 26 points, Steve Carlstrom 20, and Jack Cerny contributed 22 as the Cubs outscored Osceola 21 15 in the final period and forced 28 turnovers to hold a 34 24 rebounding edge. Osceola shot 39 percent from the field and 81 percent at the line. The Cubs next host Palmer then Marquette this weekend.
Correction for the February 3 entry removes Rex M. Moore of Valley and the insufficent fund fine. The $80 cash bond was paid. Request to publish correction in this week’s paper from Eldon R. Johnson County Judge via Clerk Lillian Timm.
Rev C W Long, former pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, is patient at Catawba Memorial Hospital in Hickory North Carolina recovering from a heart attack suffered January 30.
