Nebraska License Plates Through the Years and Proposals
Nebraska license plates began in 1906 after a 1905 law required vehicle registration. Early plates were leather with mounted metal numbers, with growth in registrations from 571 in 1906 to over 100,000 by 1916. The state shifted to county numbering, then to letter codes for counties, sparking public debate. The piece also notes road funding needs, education consolidation, periodic licenses, a turkey hunt plan, prison rebuilding cost estimates, and a positive wheat outlook for 1964-65.
