School Districts Hold Information Meeting in Marquette

A joint conference was held in Marquette on Thursday evening January 26 with six districts Benedict Bradshaw Polk Hampton Hordville and Marquette represented. Administrators and boards reviewed seven to eight years of data on mill levies tax bases budgets valuations per student and enrollment. Readable maps of the three-county area were exchanged.

Private Boye Stationed in Vietnam Headlines Stromsburg

Army Private Brian L. Boye, 18, son of Mrs. Bernadine Swan Boye, Stromsburg, was assigned January 9 as medical aidman in Head quarters Battery, 6th Battalion, 1st Artillery at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. He enlisted July 1966, previously stationed at Fort Sam Houston. Boye is a 1966 Stromsburg High School graduate and formerly worked for the Christian Book Store.

Osceola Group Wins $82000 FHA Loan for Nine Hole Golf Course

The Polk County Recreation Association secured an $82,000 Farmers Home Administration loan to buy 95 acres near Osceola and build a nine hole sand green golf course with a clubhouse and facilities. Members contribute $16,000 and will pay dues while non members will use the area for a fee. The project aims to spur rural development, create jobs, and will be repaid over 40 years. Cubs Lose Week Marked by Bradshaw and Polk Games

Polk High Cubs endured a tough week dropping 64-61 at Bradshaw in overtime and 93-58 at home to County Seat Bulldogs. Alan Gissler led the Bulldogs with 45 points while Cubs contributors included Norman Reckner and Steve Carlson. The Cubs shot 32 percent from the floor and 66 percent on free throws, with the Reserves sweeping 59-46. They host Palmer next, then travel to Waco.
