Australia to Harness Snowy River for Power

A vast hydro electric and irrigation project in Australia plans to divert Snowy River waters via a 25 mile tunnel from Kosciuszko to the Murray headwaters. The scheme, estimated at 212 million dollars, envisions multiple power stations producing about 750000 horsepower.

The island of Aruba, petitioning Queen Wilhelmina for home rule, sits in the West Indies and faces the task of adopting oil as a modern necessity. Dutch is official, with Spanish English and French spoken. native Carib-Indian stock depends on a local Papiamento patrolling force. Aruba, only slightly larger than Washington DC, has barren soil, scarce fresh water, and winds that strip topsoil, while trade winds continually shape its landscape and vegetation.

Photographs in the Dark Infrared Imaging During Blackouts

Infrared photography allows pictures to be taken in darkness using waves longer than visible light. Special infrared sensitized film is needed and filters that block visible light but pass infrared enable covert photography with ordinary flash or flood lamps during blackouts. During wartime, infrared photoflash bulbs aided such photography by blocking visible light.

Caxton the First English Printer and His Bucks

William Caxton born about 1422 became England’s first printer. He learned in Cologne, printed Recuyell about 1474, and set up a Westminster press in 1476 issuing an Abbot Sant indulgence. In 1477 he published England’s first dated book and received a yearly buck and winter doe from his patron the Earl of Arundel as part payment.

Certification growth boosts nationwide tree farm acres

The initiative adds 14 western pine farms 5 southern pine farms and 19 Tennessee farms and expands four Texas industrial farms by over 100000 acres. The nationwide total exceeds 1250 units and about 14.25 million acres with Virginia and Pennsylvania preparing first certifications and a potential rise beyond 15 million acres shortly.

Worst Snow Of Season Hits Hip County

The heaviest snow of the winter hit Hip County on Tuesday and Tuesday night, with wind and rapid drifts. Maintainers worked to keep roads open, main highways remained passable after plows, one way traffic reported on the south and east. Clearing skies indicated the storm spent itself by noon Wednesday. Farmers faced extra work clearing drifted snow around buildings and livestock. Train service was interrupted and morning mail delivery resumed near noon.

Henderson Maroon and Gold Edge Polk in Late Surge

Whit led as Polk rallied with 17 seconds left in a tense home game. Volz scored eight in the first half while Burdette Fladman tipped in a late rebound to spark Polk, who moved ahead 29 26 as Beryl Williams forced the turnover and Wiedman sealed the win with a late pass and shot. Fladman, a 15 year old sophomore, finished with 12 points.

Reserves fall to Henderson as late surge caps win

In a tight finish Henderson led a 249 to victory over the Reserves after a late run. Twenty players saw action in the final half.
