Mrs and Mrs Fr W Fossberg will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at the Baptist Church parlors Sunday afternoon February 22 from 2 to 5 and at their home in the evening from 7 to 9. They invite relatives and friends to join in marking the day.
At Rev James Nivoms home in Omaha Dorothy Bouwens daughter of Charley Olson Stromsburg and Edward A Rockwell of Omaha renewed their marriage vows on February 6. The bride wore a toast tan gabardine suit with brown accessories and red white carnation corsage. Attendant Miss Betty Lawler of Craig Neb wore a cray gabardine suit. Best man Mervin Runquist formerly of Stromsbore. The couple will live at 1015 Spencer St Omaha where Rockwell works for a paint company.
Notice to voters of Polk village and School District No 72 calling a March 3 caucus at 7 p.m. in the WHS building to nominate candidates for school board seats and village board terms of two and three years, followed by a separate village caucus for trustee positions in Polk County Nebraska.
A correction states Ylerbert O Rodman filed for commissioner of the southwest district under the Democratic label but his correct affiliation is Republican, correcting prior listing of party.
Avan Marie Fossberg infant daughter of Mroo and Mrs Goerden Ossberg of Toth died Tuesday at Mary Turnians Memorial Hospital in Tlastings. The body was prepared for burial and services were set for Wednesday in Polk County.
Kristin Glad nee Neer Olson born April 3 1870 in Ofvannker Salsingland Sweden married Anders Gustaf Glad October 30 1887 emigrated to America settling in Polk County Nebraska later living in Hamilton and York Counties before moving to Polk. She died February 2 1948 after double pneumonia at Stromsburg hospital leaving five children twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral held February 8 at Braver Funeral Home Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Milford I Olson and Rev Wil Westlund. interment at Swede Plain cemetery.

Mr and Mrs Seth Piper celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on Sunday with an event the day before February 7. Honor guests included Mr and Mrs C B E Swalley of Stromsburg who wed January 24, along with several relatives and friends from Stromsburg Benedict Osceola and Gilter area. An elaborate dinner and a three tier cake were served at a luncheon.
Polk County Welfare Department reports January 1948 figures: 172 elderly received Old Age Assistance totaling 7134.69, average 41.45 per person. Aid to Dependent Children paid 999.80 for 13 families, average 76.91 per family. One Blind Assistance recipient got 39.00. General Relief distributed 751.28 for 17 persons. Hospitalization and care costs 299.33. Administrative expenses for all programs totaled 608.60.
Mr and Mrs Richard K Nelson relocate from the Ray Bolton property to live with his parents the Nelsons. Leigh Bolton and Ray Bolton family also move into the Ray Bolton house as others relocate from the farm. Beda Stromberg visits York then returns home and Irene Tind comes back from California after her sister’s death.
Local arts listing announces Variety Girl show running at the Polk Theatre from February 1 to 18. Event features music and acts, with tickets available at the box office.
Ellen Mary Gonnerman daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry E Gonnerman married Willard J Larson son of Mrs Julia Larson on February 1 at 2 30 pm. Rev O J Wantz officiated. Attending were numerous relatives from Shelby Polk York Waco and other towns as the couple plans to reside on a farm near Polk after a wedding trip to Big Springs Nebraska.
Mr and Mrs Wayne Hill thank the Polk Fire Department and neighbors who found and extinguished a house fire preventing serious loss.
Mrs. Ilarold Bedient expresses gratitude for the thoughtful cards and messages received while she was ill, noting the kindness is deeply appreciated.
Mr and Mrs Gordon Fossberg express sincere thanks to relatives and friends for kindness shown during the loss of their baby daughter. They thank Rev Lemke and all who helped express sympathy. These deeds will never be forgotten.

Miss Virginia Anderson departed Tuesday for St Paul Minnesota to complete her nurses training after a week with her parents Mr and Mrs Edwin L Anderson. Mrs Myron Colberg hosted a Friday afternoon in honor of her daughter Sharon’s tenth birthday with several relatives in attendance and gifts. Kenneth Green home hosted Lincoln visit and hospital capping exercises featured Mary Wegmann among twenty seven students. DeAnn Branting hosted turkey dinner for Mrs Anang I Exstrom’s 75th birthday with relatives from Osceola Grand Island Omaha and others presenting cards and gifts.
