Business Men in Washington Rally for Tax and Policy Reform

In Washington a thousand small business men crowded the Department of Commerce to tell President Roosevelt what ails the country. The meeting, led by Fred Roth and with Jesse Jones present, erupted in speeches on taxes, spending, and term limits. Nine working groups formed to study taxes wages housing and related issues and report to the White House. The Housing bill passed the Senate 42 to 40 after Lodge’s prevailing wages amendment was adopted.

Navy Plane Collision Near Point Loma Fatal for Ten

During coastal maneuvers off southern California two Navy planes collided about 70 miles from Point Loma. Ten sailors died, eight bodies were recovered, three men were rescued and taken aboard the battleship Tennessee, and only fragments of wreckage were found.

China’s chief delegate Dr. V K Wellington Koo urged the League of Nations to consider lending aid to China in its war with Japan. He called for halting Japan’s campaign and a just settlement through co operation of peace loving countries to secure European peace.
