Polk High Closes Streak With 8 Point Win Over Stromsburg
Polk High School defeated Stromsburg 29 to 8 in Goldenrod Conference action on Stromsburg's home floor Friday. The game featured 28 combined fouls with Stromsburg at 16 and Polk at 12, and quarters ending 10-10 18-14 25-19 31-29. The Polk seconds also beat Stromsburg seconds 24 to 23 amid a crowded, tense gym atmosphere.

Edward Moore a 16 year old from Clarks is hospitalized in Grand Island for a gunshot wound to the left shoulder from handling a revolver at home. The bullet struck a rib and a note says he is on the road to recovery. He attended local high school before moving to Clarks.

Former Residents Die in California Trailer Fire
Two children aged 3 and 4 died in a trailer fire near Lindsay California after a jug of gasoline leaked and the vapors ignited by a stove. Their parents Mr and Mrs Clarence Gilbert escaped with severe burns and were hospitalized. A small baby survived. The Gilberts are related to Roy Gilbert and Olive Bennett of this community.

Driving Safety Gains Seen By Nebraska Patrol
Sergeant Oscar Hedberg of Osceola says western Nebraska driving conditions have improved by at least fifty percent after 60 days of state safety patrol service. He heads 14 patrolmen across 37 western counties and notes mostly minor arrests but more considerate road manners. He urges more manpower to adequately patrol the district.

New Nickel to Replace Buffalo Design in Summer
The United States will issue a new five cent nickel this summer replacing the buffalo design used since 1918. Thomas Jefferson will appear on the obverse with his home Monticello on the reverse. New Law Sets Load Limits on Farm and Local Trucks
A recent state traffic rule requires farm and local trucks with L and F licenses to display license plates showing load capacity rather than advertised capacity. After March first overloads become arrestable. Plates must reflect allowable load, with fees starting at six dollars for two tons and four dollars for each additional ton. William Childers dies at Nelson Nebraska
John William Childers 84 longtime Osceola resident died Friday in Nelson Nebraska. He lived in Nebraska 53 years and was active in the Methodist church until health failed. Survived by wife Ella eight children 18 grandchildren and a great granddaughter with children spread across Wyoming Lincoln Nelson California and Lebanon.
