Two young men from Polk and Hordville gain recognition at York College this year. Raymond Peterson, son of an income tax collector, is highlighted as part of the college's notable entrants. A deputy Internal Revenue Collector will visit Citizens State Bank in Polk on February 20 and 21 to help residents file federal tax returns at no charge. Returns are due by March 15, 1939, with penalties for late filing including up to 10,000 dollars or one year imprisonment.

Relatives and friends gathered at Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Jones home on Tuesday January 31 to honor their 40th wedding anniversary. Clarke McNary Trees Available For Polk Farmers
Polk county farmers may obtain Clarke McNary seedling and evergreen trees at the Farm Bureau office. With windbreak losses in recent years there is expected strong demand as seedlings are distributed by the Extension Service. 2200 trees have been ordered. Under the 1939 ACP program planting Clarke McNary trees can earn $10.50 per acre.

Polk High Edges Stromsburg In Fast Basketball Clash
Polk high hosted Stromsburg high in a February court battle before a capacity crowd. Polk started strong with a 7 to 1 lead but Stromsburg surged ahead in the second quarter and held the advantage to the final whistle. Polk travels to Osceola in a Golden Rod Conference game on February 10.

A. T. Reece of Osceola was chosen commander of the Polk county American Legion at the Osceola Legion Hall last Thursday evening. Alvin Bodine, outgoing county commander, was elected county adjutant. Dinner for about 75 was served by the Osceola Auxiliary before State Commander Robert Waring spoke on Americanism. Fremont District Commander Cash Reynolds attended and commented on membership.
