Vandals Strike Park and Local Businesses in Late Night Rampage

About 4:00 a.m. Saturday a carload of youths vandalized a park destroying the outdoor brick fireplace, breaking restroom glass bricks, tearing down benches, and scattering debris. They spilled diesel fuel at Dick's Standard Service and damaged a plate glass window. Aluminum gates were left in Polk Lumber Co street, and other sites including a hotel switch and rural stations suffered breakages. Local residents condemn the act as senseless destruction and a loss of respect.

Arthur Werths Celebrate Silver Anniversary at Arborville

Arthur and Virginia Werth were feted at Arborville Town Hall on February 3 honoring 25 years of marriage. About 50 relatives and neighbors attended with cards and prizes for high and consolation scores. Their son Roger, then a Polk High student, helped plan the event.

Enviable record for Calvary Church organist Lillian Chindgren

Lillian Chindgren has not missed a Sunday playing the organ at Calvary Lutheran Church in Swede Home for 41 years. She has served as church organist for 44 years and directed the choir for 30 years. Her four unit choir and lifelong study at Luther College and Augustana shaped a long musical career.

Dennis Widga Serves Aboard Navy Ship Off Korea

Dennis Widga a Polk High 1965 graduate and 21 year old quarter master serves on the Navy ship Enterprise off the North Korea coast. He was assigned January 3 as the vessel refits for Hawaii and Japan areas after Navy enlistment in September 1966 with training in Omaha San Francisco and San Diego.

Hospital notes report patient movements and visits

Mrs Bessie Green remains a patient at Osceola hospital. Mrs Vi Babcock departed Central City hospital on January 31 followed by Donald Widga on February 2. Elmer Hanquist was admitted to Central City on February 3. Verland Widga and his wife visited Mrs Romsdal in Omaha on January 21. Mrs Romsdal returned home to Bradshaw on Saturday.
