Record number of bills prompts talk of August legislative end
In the 1965 Nebraska Legislature a record over 900 measures were filed by 49 senators, with some sponsors submitting up to 25 proposals. The surge prompted rule changes allowing more bills after day 20 and calls to curb late submissions as the session edges toward August. Senator Bowen urged a deadline reform after a flood of last minute bills. The article notes open docket legislation LB570 by Rasmussen and Hasebroock to end legal secrecy in juvenile court and allow publication of juvenile offender names.

Debate over juvenile records secrecy and tax on moving fines

The piece also notes a possible state tax on fines to fund a safety program and reports on a governor conference praising small towns and announcing a new anti poverty agency led by Lincoln teacher Roland Jensen with $8,500 salary and $26,000 initial funding.
