Rev. Reck, a former Free Methodist pastor at Pork, died November 30 at his Taylor home at age 78. He left a widow, four daughters and three sons. Word reached Polk this week. Extensive Christmas day and visiting notices follow among relatives and friends in Stromsburg, Grand Island, Lincoln, Aurora, Hampton, York and Havens.
Gerald Mentzger age 25, alias J Vanard, arrested in Shelby on Missouri warrant for about $1000 in fraudulent checks. He confessed desertion from the Navy in 1942. Held in Polk County jail, Missouri has priority. if convicted he faces dishonorable discharge, else naval desertion action pending. Mentzger previously worked as a hotel cook in Omaha.
Mrs Alma Anderson was taken by ambulance to the University hospital in Omaha after a fall at her home. Christmas Day guests at multiple homes included Olson and Sundberg families from Omaha Lincoln and York along with Andersons Eckles Stevens and Detoff households.

Saturday brought double joy for three Polk residents as Mrs. Arlo Stevens Jim Reeves and 11 year old Kay Nelson celebrated both Christmas and their birthday anniversaries in a rare holiday coincidence.
The Campfire Girls met at Sharalee Hill’s home Monday for Christmas games and carols. Eleven girls exchanged gifts and a lunch was served. In other notes, Mrs. Irvin Anderson won a grocery contest valued at 2500 dollars and will compete nationally. Families and friends gathered for dinners and visits across Osceola and nearby towns during the holiday season.
This column lists numerous holiday visits as Mr. and Mrs. Otte and family travel to Denver for Christmas. extended relatives from Grand Island York and Lincoln exchange gifts and share meals in Aurora Denver Fremont and other towns. Several families host Christmas dinners and attend programs with relatives from Smith Bennett Lindholm and Bedient families among others.
Miss Marjorie Warnick and Reuben Ehn wed in a three o clock December 14 service at the Methodist Church in Sidney Nebraska. Rev. Jewett officiated with Mr. and Mrs. Hilmer Nuss as attendees. They plan to reside on a Polk area farm after a short wedding trip.
