Thirty Years Ago In Polk County Notes

Way Back When recalls events from thirty years ago in Polk County. Co. E. Cohagen had a surgical operation in York on Tuesday and is recovering. Visitors include Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Smith of Devon en route to Indiana, Mrs. Pearl Clark from Omaha to see her mother and sister, Mrs. Nellie Harless. Mrs. R. H. Thesing visited Dr. and Mrs. Clinton Ayres in Kearney. Raymond Tewell traveled from Julesburg to visit family in York, then will go to Lincoln to see his sister. Chester Strubbe left to return home to Lincoln. Polk County population up 193 since 1910. Mrs. Peterson and daughter Ruth Castile visited Dr. C. R. Peterson to see their new grandson and nephew.

A V Reed and Herbert Wurtz attended the funeral of Dr C A Flippen in Grand Island Saturday. he died at his daughter's home in Hollywood and was the father of Stromsburg Dr Flippen who died about a year ago. Leonard Renquist and Harold Schultz returned to Racine Wisconsin Saturday after visiting their parents. Miss Hazel Nelson leaves December 17 for Fort Riley Kansas to join Army Nurse Corps with Red Cross. nurses hold rank of Second Lieutenant in Army Nurse Corps Reserve. R C Collins of Shelton Nebraska visited Polk last Thursday. formerly with Bank of Polk. Jackie Lavelle, son of Merle Lavelle, had appendicitis operation at Lutheran Hospital in York Thursday. Polk markets Saturday reported Cream 35c lb Eggs 23c per dozen heavy hens 11c.

Christmas meeting at Baptist Missionary held Thursday

The Baptist Missionary drew a good audience for a Christmas program on Thursday afternoon led by Mrs. Wilbur White acre. Rev. Clifford Smith spoke and Rev. Elwood Anderson with Mrs. Smith and the latter contributed musical numbers. A penny a meal collection will go to Baptist Bethel College in Minneapolis. Hostesses included Mesdames Sandell Alf rod Horstman Richardson and Aker serving lunch amid festive decorations.

Roger Benson of Hordville returned home Saturday morning from Fort Lewis Washington where he received a medical discharge from the Navy. He plans to resume his college work. Officers elected for county PMA

Delegates from county precincts met December 7 1950 at the PMA office in Osceola to elect the county committee for 1951. Selected were Lee F Campbell chairman Richard C Sealey vice chairman and Leo Cockson third member from Clear Creek precinct. Precinct committees of three were elected earlier by mail ballot including Canada Clear Creek Hackberry Island Osceola Platte Pleasant Home Stromsburg Valley with named members.
