Safe insecticides for crops remain a tough problem
Ruth Mosher notes in the Detroit News that balancing human health and crop protection from insects is complex. Pyrethrum sprays show promise by killing many pests with low risk to people, but seasonal and temperature variation, limited efficacy on some pests, and higher costs keep it from universal use. For home gardeners, pyrethrum is valuable to reduce deadly poison exposure in households. Pyrethrum remains safe and effective on fruits and leaf crops.
