Polk Cubs Win 53 47 Over Hampton in Narrow Victory

Polk Cubs defeated the Hampton Hawks 53 to 47 on the local maples Friday night. Kent Anderson led Polk with 11 rebounds and 20 points, while Mick Hoffman added 8 points and 9 boards. Dan Troester and Greg Rehrs sparked late in the game as Polk pulled away.

Stella Mae Whittemore born February 6 1886 on a Nebraska farm near Arborville died December 5 1969 after living in Polk since 1927. She married Charles A Whittemore in 1908 had son Rodney 1910 and ran a general store and post office in Arborville. Services December 8 at Evangelical Free Church Polk with Rev Koelling. interment Arborville Cemetery.

Twenty Five Turkeys To Be Given Away Saturday

Twenty five turkeys will be awarded in a free drawing on Polk Main St at 3 p m this Saturday December 13. Registration for the drawing is in the Polk hotel lobby from 10 a m until drawing time. Polk merchants start guessing contests in their shops with prizes set by each merchant to be awarded Saturday December 20. Santa Claus arrives December 20 at 3 p m with treats for children.

Frank R Phillips 188 in Pike County Pioneer of Snappy Delivery

Frank R Phillips born May 21 188 in Pike County Illinois died December 7 1969 in Moline Illinois. He moved with his parents to Nebraska as a baby and resided near Stromsburg Polk and Hordville until 1937 returning to Illinois. For 15 years before retiring in 1959 he ran Snappy Delivery Service in Moline. He wed Eva Thesing June 26 1912 at York Nebraska. Survived by daughter Mrs Walter Waters two granddaughters and one great granddaughter all of Moline. Preceded in death by wife Evelynne a daughter and his parents. Services and burial were in Moline Thursday December 11 1969.
