Farmers butchering hogs were told to guard against swine erysipelas as the disease affects hogs with skin lesions swollen joints and high fever. Workers should wash and disinfect hands after handling any animals to prevent human infection erysipeloid. Early diagnosis and isolation are crucial to stop herd spread and protect other livestock and poultry.

Polk County Dairy Breeders Set New Fees and Imports Plan
At the Polk County Dairy Breeders Directors meeting a new pricing plan takes effect December 3 granting 7.00 for three services in 180 days with 2.00 for extra services. A 320 farm membership is approved with 50 members unused in 1948 and 601 cows serviced plus 160 extra services yearly. Plans include importing 50 dairy heifers around January 1 from DHIA herds. calves priced near 50 to 60 dollars and allocated by registration with 4-H first. 4-H Achievement Day featured music skits and awards with thanks to Roberts Dairy and Stromsburg Club.

A capacity crowd attended the Friday night performance of It's A Great Life at the high school auditorium under director Zelda Stevens and sponsor Duane Hartman.
