First Pullman Sleeping Car Run Between Bloomington and Chicago

In the early 1850s George Pullman began converting day coaches at Blooming ton shops of the Chicago and Alton. On September 1, 1859 the first converted car made its initial trip between Bloomington and Chicago. The first Pullman porter urged uneasy passengers to remove their boots before lying down.

4 H Winners At County Fair Are Announced Here

4 H exhibitors of Livestock and Dairy put on a good show for visitors. The cattle barn space was filled and 4 Baby Beeves were stabled in the Hog and Sheep Barn. A holstein heifer shown by Bobby Lamoree in 1949 Fair was back this year and rated one of the outstanding entries of the 1950 show by the judge. Ivynn Sundbergs Berkshires were also considered outstanding and rated State Exhibition in the opinion of K. C. Fouts.

Polk County 4H Fair Honors Parade and Awards

The Polk County 4H Fair highlighted awards for top exhibitors and judges with rosettes and cash prizes. Delegates included Betty Lees and Ruth Sigler among many honorees, led by Parade Superintendent Raymond Burke and chaired by an awards committee. The event featured livestock and float parades, demonstrations, contests, and dress revue plans for State Fair representation.

Golden Wedding Anniversary Honor At Creech Home

A family reunion at the home of Mr and Mrs Clarence Creech honored Mrs Creech’s parents Mr and Mrs George W Hall of York for their Golden Wedding. Six children and 23 of 24 grandchildren attended along with relatives from Exeter Mesa Colorado Rising City and Rising City. The honorees received many gifts after a short program.

Vacation Bible School Closes With Student Presentations

The fourth annual Vacation Bible School concluded Monday evening at the Church with class presentations music and exhibits of hand work and crafts. A large crowd attended to support the project and the school enrolled about sixty students.

Arborville Shiners 4-H Members Win York County Fair Awards

Arborville Shiners 4-H Club members earned multiple ribbons at the York County Fair last week. Kenneth Bower received a purple for his Dairy Calf, Alice Marie Janky a purple for a jar of fruit, Nadine Shultz and Mary Jean Guidinger blue ribbons for cooking entries, Myron Norquest blue for a beef calf, with many others earning red and white ribbons in the competition.
