Polk High School Band Spotlight on Music and History
The Polk High School band under Arthur Bates has grown to about 30 members with a history dating to June 5 1908 when the Polk Municipal Band formed with eleven members each paying five dollars. The group has built a music program through the years, with practice costs, varied practice spaces, and multiple directors including A V Burks Henry Clark Fritz Von Paul and R L Peterson.

Polk County Fair Highlights and Unusual Exhibits
At the Polk County Fair a nine foot around pumpkin drew attention in the agricultural hall. Exhibits showed tall corn stalks and unique squash displays while Enoch Anderson led the Farmers Union booth handing out pencils. Attendees registered for a prize guessing total dividends paid to Polk County farmers over 32 years, with guesses ranging from $795 to millions.

Farmers Creameries display and radio sales at county fair
A county fair exhibit by Farmers Creameries D1 Nebr drew attention as cream is shown from farm to butter to groceries. Obituary of Mrs Lyman Lampshire mourns long illness
Goldie Elvens Benson born February 11, 1898 died August 22, 1950 after a long illness. She married Lyman Lampshire March 16, 1920 and they had seven children. She was a faithful member of Hordville Methodist Church and WSCS, loved family, and is survived by her husband, three daughters, four sons, two sisters, five grandchildren, and many relatives.

An auto accident east of Polk on a dust filled highway left Fritz Bedient injured with internal wounds and severe bruises after he crashed into Paul Grossnicklaus’s rear vehicle. Grossnicklaus and a Galusha boy were also hurt. both cars sustained heavy damage. Bedient has been sent home from hospital.
