Obituary of Polk County pioneer David Knerr
David Knerr, 89, longtime Polk County resident, died at his Stromsburg home 4:00 Monday after years of ill health. He helped settle Hackberry, farmed there, then moved to Stromsburg where he lived until death. Services were held at the Victor Anderson chapel and the Methodist Church with Rev. EC Staley officiating. Surviving are son Elmer E. and daughter Rosetta Knerr. Interment in Osceola cemetery.

Longtime Hordville Resident Dies at 80
A resident living near Hordville and Polk since 1880 died at University Hospital in Omaha on Sunday. Funeral services were held at Fridham Lutheran Church, with burial in Fridham Cemetery. He was 80 years, 1 month, and 18 days old.

Extension extends seeding deadline in county program
The State Committee on Agricultural Conservation informs Polit County and Agent Kelly that seeding of legumes and perennial grasses on land seeded since July 1 may be done by September 30, one month after the original September 1 deadline. Producers with spring seeded land killed by drought and those planning nurse crops are asked to visit the Osceola office. Do not seed in dry ground.

Fire destroys outbuildings at Trumbull farm
A fire at the farm home of Mr and Mrs William Groetz in Trumbull Sunday evening destroyed most outbuildings. Mrs Ross Goethe of Polk visiting the home had parked her car nearby and the flames consumed it before rescue. Spontaneous combustion is suspected as the cause.

Fire damages bed in Stromsburg home as lightning suspected
