A father and son team at Polk began as John Deere dealers in December 1934. They have sold 45 new tractors and 15 to 20 used ones, with strong sales in 15-foot discs and power mowers. They also handle De Laval and Anker-Holth cream separators, Dempster tanks, and Standard Oil products.

Charles V Lindahl born in Smaland Sweden October 4 1868 died August 13 1936 in Rochester Minnesota at 67 years 10 months and 9 days. He immigrated 1885 lived in the community since. Survived by wife Hannah Johnson six children two brothers a sister an aunt eight grandchildren and many relatives. He was a Hardville Baptist Church member served as trustee and treasurer. Funeral held at Lindahl home and Baptist Church Hordville interment Baptist Cemetery Brauer Funeral Home in charge. The Progress subscription note follows.

Fire damages straw stack at Ostberg farm
Early Saturday a straw stack near Lyle Ostberg’s farm buildings caught fire after a lightning strike during an electrical storm. Firemen responded around four in the morning. wind shifts helped spare the adjacent outbuildings. Town lights were out from the storm, so the fire bell rang to summon volunteers, drawing a large crowd.

Mrs Ruth Taylor Dies After illness in Lincoln
Mrs Ruth Watson Taylor 48 wife of Sam Taylor Polk and daughter of former state senator Charles J Watson of Fairmont died after a several week illness at her aunt Miss Ella Watsons Lincoln home. She graduated from Northwestern University Evanston in 1917 and taught at York high school before her 1925 marriage. Surviving are her husband two daughters Laura June and Martha Lee two brothers Frank H Red Cloud and C Lee Fairmont. Funeral services were held at Miss Watsons home and Metz chapel York with interment there.

Polk County fair opens Tuesday with reduced admission
Polk County's annual county fair will open next Tuesday. Weather curtails agricultural exhibits but other departments expect strong displays. Admission is 25 cents daily, season tickets 75 cents, with no gate charge at night. Highlights include a beauty pageant, nightly shows, and a rural teachers play finale. Axel Carlson and Mrs. Carlson of Lincoln visited Hartwig Fiedamandows over the weekend.

Anthrax Appears Near Stromsburg Stake in Local Herd
Walter Rystrom of near Stromsburg reports ten hogs and a steer died from anthrax last week. Dr. Getty of Stromsburg confirmed four more animals affected after examining carcasses. Lincoln authorities were notified and a lab test supported the diagnosis. Stockmen are warned to handle dead or ailing carcasses with care.

Marquette Boy Killed In Motorcycle Crash
Allan Wilson, 25, of Marquette, was killed Monday night when his motorcycle collided with an automobile while riding from Bradshaw road project work to his home. He suffered a fractured skull and died at York Lutheran hospital. He is survived by his father Arthur and sister Margaret of Florida, and sister Doris and brother Edwin of Marquette. funeral arrangements pending.

Polk Thirtieth Anniversary Celebration Sees Successful Close
Despite drought heat and a late last minute loss of rides the Polk celebration finished successfully. Governor Cochran spoke on Tuesday followed by Bob Simmons and Arthur J. Denney with Chas G. Binderup and R. O. Johnson as orators on Wednesday. Ball games and dances drew large crowds each night.
