Secretary of the School Board Carl Steelquist announced PWA authorization for Polk School remodeling at a total cost of 25000 dollars. A direct grant of 12150 dollars will come from the PWA. Bonds will be sold and bids advertised. school remains in session as scheduled.

Polk County's 1937 wheat crop was valued at 467470 dollars with 46747 acres harvested and an average yield of 10 bushels per acre. The state report shows Lancaster County at 20 bushels per acre from 140344 acres valued near 3 million. Scottsbluff had the top yield at 25 bushels per acre from 2349 acres. The regional average price paid to farmers was 97 cents per bushel.

Polk High School Coach Resigns Before School Opening
Melvin Ethington, Polk High School football coach last year and under contract this year, informed the School Board by telephone Tuesday of his resignation by mail. A board member said the resignation will likely be accepted and Ethington may have a better offer from Friend, Nebraska. The timing, one week before school, puts the board in a difficult position while new applicants are expected to be interviewed soon. Charles Smith attended a truckers meeting in Grand Island Sunday.

About 85 attended a personal and linen shower at Arborville town hall Tuesday for Miss Clara Mundt. Pink and white decor set the theme. Readings by Mrs. Glenn Hill Mrs Martin Baack and Serena Meer Katz of York plus a duet and a solo highlighted the program. Guests offered advice and played games before a luncheon of sandwiches pickles coffee cake and ice cream. Miss Mundt received many lovely and useful gifts.
