High School Enrollment Slightly Up from Last Year
Enrollment totals show 120 students this year versus 115 last year, with 35 freshmen including 24 non residents. Seniors number 24, Grade School counts 84, and last year’s enrollment was 115. Mrs. Rolland Dahlin hosted a Friday birthday party for Marilyn with multiple attendees and a luncheon.
Polk County Fair Maintains Postponed Premiums
Polk County Fair announces no premiums will be paid before November 1 due to slow tax receipts and limited county funds. Pari Mutual revenue is expected in October. Jay Hastings serves as Secretary.

Riverside picnic highlights area families
A group of local families including Mr. and Mrs. Leo Calhoun of San Diego and the Carlsons of Stromsburg enjoyed a Monday evening picnic at Riverside. The Calhouns planned visits in Minnesota and Portland before returning home while other guests attended gatherings at Loup City and Wellman. The Carlsons and Lena Wath, all from Stromsburg, are leaving for Rockford Illinois to establish a new home.

Saw corn thirteen and a half feet high near Valley
Faul Wurtz and Jon Leo stopped at a farm north of Valley on their way back from Omaha Monday and brought in several tall corn stalks for exhibition at their store. The moisture came from irrigation. the corn stood thirteen and three quarters feet tall with bars eight and a half feet high. Paul notes the field was thick with this corn, but the farmer will ensile the crop this year. If such corn grew in Polk county, farmers would be glad.

Frog Pond School Picnic Brings District 38 Alumni
About 60 former students and friends of District No. 38 gathered at the village park for a noon picnic and program. Former teacher Mrs. Harry Halleck attended, and Carl Jonez of Lexington Kentucky gave an engaging talk. Alumni recalled Frog Pond visits from the 1880s or 1890s, with yearly reunions growing larger for five summers.
