County Superintendent Cites New School Laws

Olive M. McBeth reports Nebraska unicameral laws take effect August 27. New rules limit first grade admission to six year olds unless kindergarten completed, and set five year olds or tested readiness for kindergarten or beginner grades.

Kentucky Missionary to Speak at Union Service

Miss Helen Nyberg, a Kentucky missionary, will speak at a Union Service in the Evangelical Free Church next Sunday at 8 p m. She recently shared in the Nebraska Young People's Conference at Polk Bible Camp and will stay briefly for vacation. All are welcome to attend the Sunday night meeting.

Girls 4 H Judging Contest at Polk County Fair

About 22 4 H girls met August 18 at the 4 H club building for the County Judging Contest tied to the Polk County Fair. Miss Grace Walrod of Hamilton County acted as judge and offered helpful tips. Nearly 20 leaders and supporters attended. results were announced at the fair. Sunny Sue Club held an Achievement Day August 16 at Edwin Doremus home with Lets Sew projects on display and demonstrations by several girls.

Polk Schools Schedule First Day And New Faculty

Polk Schools will open Monday August 29 with a half day and noon dismissal. Football and band practice set for Monday afternoon. Enrollment occurs Monday morning. Four new teachers join the faculty including Jesse D. Bradley teaching commercial from Omaha. Mrs. J. D. Bradley with six years Iowa school experience to teach kindergarten through second grade. Ruth Weston to teach English and dramatics. Elaine Lanphear to teach fifth and sixth grades.

Miller Lindholm Nuptials Solemnized in Fullerton Church

Miss Lois Jane Miller and Delwyn Lindholm wed in an eight o'clock ceremony at the Methodist Church of Fullerton. The couple exchanged vows before 250 guests with a double ring rite led by Rev. Lawrence D. Boyer. The celebration featured gladioli arrangements, a white satin gown, a Navy Bible gift, and a reception in the church parlor before a honeymoon in the Black Hills.

A shower for brides to be Donna Nuss of Sutton and Elaine Carlson of Stromsburg was held at Swede Home Church parlor. Showers for Bride to Be for Darlene Johnson

A series of three pre wedding showers honors Darlene Johnson. August 20 at Glennis Widga’s home featured a life reading and gifts carried in a bride’s wheelbarrow for 24 guests. A second shower August 21 at Ansel Fredrickson’s home had 20 guests and decorated cart gifts. A final August 22 at Elwyn Johnson’s home offered games and an umbrella gift for 25 guests with lunch trays and umbrella favors.

Peter Peterson Reunion Proceedings in Stromsburg

The Peter Peterson reunion gathered 61 attendees at Buckley Park in Stromsburg on August 21. Since the last reunion three marriages and four births occurred, including the family’s first set of twins. A future reunion was set for the third Sunday in August at Stromsburg. Seth Peterson cut the wedding cake and servants included Janice Sundberg and five other waitresses. dining room assistants included Horace Stevens and others. A wedding couple traveled in a brown faille dress with brown accessories and an orchid corsage. The couple plans to live at 3700 Bunker Hill Road Mt. Rainier Maryland after September 12 following a trip to the Black Hills and Colorado. Polk High and Nebraska Central College alumni note.
