John Adams formerly of the Davis Pharmacy family is to manage the Rexall Drug Store in Dewitt Nebraska. He has spent two summers in this role and made many friends during his stay.
The Tabernacle at the Mission Camp Grounds south of Polk filled to capacity for the final revival night. Platte Valley Young People's Evangelistic League began their encampment at the Bible Camp with Rev. R. A. Dahlgren of Big Springs, S. D., as guest speaker. Services started each night at 7:30 and were open to the public.
Stromsburg held services Sunday in memory of the late L P Samuelson. Three of his sons led the observance including Rev Albert Samuelson of Council Grove Kansas who offered prayer. Rev J Arthur Samuelson of Baldwin Kansas sang a solo, with Rev Everett Samuelson of Elm Creek Neb reading scripture and Rev Rudolph Samuelson of Brockton Mass delivering the sermon.
The Ladies Aid of the Methodist church met in the church parlors with Mrs Paul Strand Mrs Freeman Johnson Mrs Virgil Eisler and Mrs Ansel Lindquist as hostesses. Mrs Albert Sundberg led the business session and plans were made for the Polk County Fair stand. A rope and twine tying demonstration was given by Elizabeth Smith and Marjorie Warnick, followed by a talk by Mrs Frank Davis on their trips to the fair in San Francisco. A lunch was served.
The 1939 corn parity program is active in Polk County with about 400 applications signed last week and more in process at the county office. The plan pays six cents per bushel on the normal yield for corn within the allotment, plus nine cents per bushel under the regular conservation payment to be issued later. The aim is to align the farmer's corn price with non agricultural product prices.
Mr and Mrs W J Kroger hosted a Sunday birthday dinner for their son Lloyd and Homer Branting of Hordville. Attendees included the Steelquist, Branting, Kroger, McNaught, Benson, Maxine Kroger, and Roscoe Kroger families. They later shared a river picnic supper with additional relatives from Hordville Central City and Grand Island.
The Wurtz family held its annual reunion at Central Power Park in Grand Island on Sunday. Attendees included multiple relatives from Osceola Havens Loup City North Platte Cairo Hampton Denver Polk and other areas.
The second half of the 1938 real estate taxes will be delinquent September 1 with 7 percent interest from that date. Leroy M. Smith County Treasurer.
Community church listings show worship times for several congregations including Swedish Lutheran Methodist and First Baptist with Sunday School at 10 and services throughout the day. The Polk County Rural Teachers list multiple staff across district 1 and other local schools, with contract details and interim announcements.
The Free Methodist Church led by Pastor Lee offers Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. and preaching at 11:00 a.m. A YP meeting is at 7:15 p.m. with an 8:00 p.m. sermon. Thursday prayer meeting at 8:00 p.m. Evangelical Free Mission Church under Pastor Carlson lists August 27 as Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. and Morning Worship at 11:00 a.m. August 30 features Bible study and prayer at 8:00 p.m. The scripture quotes Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
STROMSBURG Reuel Sward and Kermit Brant ing left on Saturday evening for a week's fishing trip in Minnesota. Mr and Mrs. Ralph Mackerang of Osceola spent Sunday at the R. E. Nelson home. Misses Lois Nelson and Angela Rejche, the latter of Wilbur, returned Sunday morning from Colorado where they spent two weeks vacation at Grand Lake, Denver and Colorado Springs. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Watters and family, who visited at the Henry Moberg home for ten days, returned to Lincoln Friday and will depart this week for their home at Miami, Florida. F. R. Nixon of Legion, Texas formerly of this city, arrived last Thursday to spend a week or more here looking after business matters. Rev. and Mrs. Clarence Lind and family of North Bend came Friday and visited at the Henry Lind home and with other relatives for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Clement Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Nelson and son Gary left Saturday for Minnesota to spend a week's vacation. Mrs. Einer Swanson and family and Mrs. C. J. Arnold drove to North Bend on Sunday and spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burton. Lorraine Swanson returned home with them after spending a week there.
Sheriff Herb Person of Platte County says three thousand seven hundred twenty seven dollars in delinquent personal taxes have been paid to date as a campaign continues. Three thousand thirty eight notices have been sent and one thousand one hundred seventy nine more are ready. Ten day payment arrangements are required before distress warrants are issued. Seven special deputies will begin serving warrants Monday. Visitors Dora Stroupe of Erie Kang and Grant Bell with family are in town visiting Shad Stroupe and family.
Alma R Nyblom born December 22 1874 in Ramnaby Vastmanland Sweden died August 18 1939 in Polk Nebraska age 64 years 7 months 27 days. She immigrated at age five with her parents to Polk County and married Gust Adolph Johnson in 1898. Survived by husband five children 15 grandchildren one great grandchild sister and brothers. Funeral at Polk Baptist Church August 21 burial Aurora Cemetery.
A district meeting of the Agricultural Conservation Program gathered Friday at the Osceola Hotel. Eight counties sent representatives including Howard Nance Merrick Polk Seward York Butler and Hamilton. Polk County Chairman Robert C. Taddiken introduced state office staff Mitchell and Webb who outlined payment application procedures.
Word comes from Polk that Smith Crow of Long Beach California son of Mr and Mrs A K Crow married Helen Larson of Long Beach. Mrs Bertha Irene Nine died at 69 in York Friday morning with survivors including R J Nine Stromsburg and Mrs Frank Chisman Friend. Funeral services were at Sage Bestol Funeral Home York with Rev Mearl C Smith presiding. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Anna Anderson 79 died at her Stromsburg home Monday after a short illness. She is survived by daughter Esther of Stromsburg and two sons Arthur of Polk and Frank of Genoa.

A new feature at the county fair this year is the 44H Club sale of boars rams and gifts Friday afternoon August 25 in front of the grandstand. Stromsburg Sale Barn managers Myrberg and Wallace Strong organized the event with Elmer Tooker Homer Ingalls and Alvin Merrick assisting in the ring. Gordon Fredrickson 4211 committee chairman will help Myrberg cashiering the sale. The sale is expected to feature well bred stock and many prized animals and farmers are invited to attend.
The Polk County fair began Monday with entry day excitement as stalls filled with livestock, agriculture, and fine arts. 4-H clubs drew attention for their projects while crowds grew daily. fountains near the grandstand offer public convenience as the fair runs through Friday night.
