Polk Celebration Two Day Event Honors 30th Anniversary

Celebration program for Polk's 30th anniversary runs Tuesday and Wednesday August 18 and 19 with a street carnival rides and concessions a double header ball game Lin ecoln Creek vs Polk and Swede Home vs Swede Plain admission 10c music by Polk Band and a modern dance orchestra. Wednesday features a big street parade sports races picnic dinner at the park at noon free coffee and 2 pm ball final admission 10c music by Polk Band dancing at 9 pm. Republican speakers include Dwight W Griswold Arthur J Denney Charles W Binder and Robert Simpsons with tentative arrangements for speeches to draw large crowds.

Shower For Bride To Be Elna Stranberg Nyberg Event

Announcement of the approaching marriage of Miss Elna Stranberg to Edwin Nyberg at a miscellaneous shower hosted by Olof Nyberg on Friday August 7. The couple will wed in Hordville on August 15 as guests celebrated with games a treasure hunt gifts and a yellow and white luncheon for about forty.

Johnson McBeth wedding at Swede Home Church

Edythe Johnson daughter of Mrs. Esther Johnson and Brent McBeth son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert McBeth wed at Swede Home Church on Sunday evening August 2 after the Luther League program. Rev. C A Sward officiated. The bride wore a brown dress with a matching hat. Attendants were Yaelen Peterson and Waldo Rodfine of Swede Home. The couple left for a wedding trip to the Black Hills.

Nebraska grads secure jobs in 1936 report

University of Nebraska says 714 June graduates found employment across professions, with 50 percent of advanced degree holders already placed. Strong demand in agronomy, dairy, animal husbandry, rural economics, home economics teaching, institution management, botany, chemistry, physics, zoology, geology and oil industry. More graduates in business, law, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and engineering secured positions with majority employed by end of summer.

Beauty pageant draws wide county interest at Polk County fair

The Polk County beauty pageant at the Polk County fair grounds on Monday night August 25 will crown Miss Polk County by three out of county judges. Over a hundred girls are entered with sponsors from local businesses and professionals. The winner advances to Lincoln to compete for Miss Nebraska. A Little Miss Polk County contest for ages 3 to 6 will also be held.

Remedy for Drouth: underground lake irrigation proposal

Robert Graham of York, district manager for Town Nebraska Light and Power, proposed tapping a vast underground water reservoir beneath Nebraska’s sandhill region to irrigate fields. He cited geologists locating a dense water vein from Kearney to Seward and Platte River area, potentially 100 feet deep, usable by electric pumps or tractors, with artesian wells as another option.

Four Polk County meetings on trench silos August 15

Water Conservation Ponds Considered for Drouth Relief

Polk County may be declared a drouth area by the State Drouth Committee pending USDA approval. If approved, WPA drouth projects would build water conservation dams to provide employment for eligible farmers and farm workers. Landowners seeking dams should notify R L Anderson in Osceola Relief Office. Also notes social visit at Benedict with Pierson and Sedan families.

County 4 H Club Picnic Set in Osceola Park

Polk County 4 H members and families will hold their annual picnic at City Park Osceola on Wednesday August 19 starting at 10 am. Attendees should bring ice cream freezers and mixing for their group. Free cold drinks, swimming suits and towels with regular admission. Games from the earlier recreational school will be held. Admission 15 cents for children and 25 cents for those over 16. The Evangelical Free Churches of Nebraska hold the Young People’s and Sunday School Conference at Poll Bible Camp near Polk from Aug 18 to Aug 23 with daily morning and evening services led by Brother Harry Lindbloom. A youth camp runs Aug 24 to Aug 28. The W F M S lunch stand operates on main street during the Celebration. Rev Paul Carlson and family visited Loomis over the weekend.
