Birthday Club Hosts Luncheon at Mrs Bush Home

Mrs Lyle Widga and Mrs Virgil Bush entertained their birthday club at the home of Mrs Bush on Monday afternoon. Guests enjoyed games followed by a lovely lunch served by the hostesses.

Tuesday afternoon coffee guests at Mrs. C. O. Bodine included Miss Helen Nyberg of Cody Ky and several Nybergs and Trennepohl from Rapid City. The Bennett Community Church wedding of Eldon Lindquist and Donna Ringland drew Mr and Mrs Virgil Bush and other local couples. Ernie Lotts visited Thelma Hoffman in Rising City and Martin Hoffman Jr. joined Sunday events at his father’s home.

Polk Schools Set to Open August 29 At 8 30

Polk schools start Monday August 29 at 8 30 with a general meeting for grades 7 12 and staff in the high school auditorium. First day ends at noon after shortened periods. Labor Day off September 5. Pre registration August 24 25 with freshman 10 am sophomores 2 pm juniors 10 am seniors 2 pm. Bus schedules to be listed next week.

Bridal Shower Honors Avis Elvers in Grand Island

A bridal shower for Miss Avis Elvers of Grand Island was held in Immanuel Lutheran parlors with turquoise and white decorations and a luncheon. Bride-to-be unwrapped gifts after games. lunch was served by hostesses Mrs. Duane DeMers and Mrs. Duane Blase, with co-hostesses Mrs. Emalyne Blase and Mrs. Wilton Forsman.

Corner Cafe to Close for Four Day Vacation

Corner Cafe owner Margaret Johnson will close the cafe for a four day vacation starting August 18. The cafe will reopen on August 22.
