Brazda Implement Sale in Polk Tuesday

The Brazda Implement Co will hold its semi annual sale of used machinery in Polk Tuesday August 30 starting at 12 00 noon Nineteen used tractors and ten used combines lead the list of equipment offered Pickers and corn heads grain drills plows disks harrows mowers and rakes and other machinery will be sold to the highest bidder Dale Hanna and Henry Bergen conduct the sale A copy of the sale bill is on pages 4 and 5 of this Progress.

Bean Day Becomes Talk In Polk County Notes

August 1966 Bean Day coverage shows furnace warmup in Progress office and plans for foods like beans and barbecued beef. The 200 acre Brazda property near Polk will be sold Friday August 26 at 1 30 P M. Located four miles north and fourteen miles west of Polk the land includes a semi modern house and other buildings. Dale Realty Auction conducts.

Funeral Services For Albert Sundberg 83 Today

Albert E. Sundberg 83 retired Polk hardware businessman died Saturday in Sterling Colorado while visiting his son Doyle. Funeral services are held today in Polk with burial in Polk Cemetery. Sundberg opened Polk hardware in 1906 and led Sundberg and Son after 1908 retirement in 1964. He served on the village board, led the Polk Municipal Band, and held Masonic and Eastern Star offices, leaving a large family and many friends.

Polk Schools Ready for 1966 67 Term On Aug 29

Polk schools open Monday August 29 for the 1966 67 year with a half day session. Full day sessions begin August 30. Teacher workshops occur August 26 and a county institute on August 27 in Stromsburg. Superintendent Walter Nielsen lists elementary and high school faculty and staff including principal John Heywood and librarian Helen Erikson.

Two New Reporters For Polk Progress Begin Monday

Beginning Monday August 29 the Polk Progress adds two correspondents to replace Mrs. Harvey Lind who leaves for a kindergarten job. Mrs. Clymer will cover Arborville and North Blue and Mrs. Hahn will report Polk local news. News must be in by Tuesday noon.

County Court Docket Highlights August 22 1966

In Colorado Lester A. Stroh and several others face day speeding charges with fines ranging from 15 to 35 dollars. Gerald L. Lofberg and Henry Titsworth from Omaha also cited. Ronald J. Cuza faces a truck speeding fine. Dale B. E. Yungdahl of Osceola charged with multiple counts including night speeding willful reckless driving assault and battery and driving with high alcohol. Total fines 425 dollars, costs 27. Marriage license issued August 15 to Gene A Scholz and Linda Carter both 19 or 21 from Shelby.

Mrs. Levar Sandell returned home a week ago from Central City hospital where she had been a patient for five weeks.

Polk Bean Day Set With Parade And Family Fun

Polk this Saturday hosts Bean Day marking 60 Years of Good Living with a 10:00 A M parade led by the Polk High School Band. Events include bean burgers, beef barbecue, afternoon children's races, a Home Talent Show, a bicycle relay, a girls softball game against Clarks, a Hastings Male Chorus concert, a teen dance, garden club exhibit, live music, and carnival rides, plus door prizes and a silver tea. Volunteers and vendors fill Main Street for a full day of entertainment and community activities.
