Polk school to start hot lunch program August 30

The Polk school hot lunch program begins August 30 with lunch prices set at 30 cents for students and 35 cents for adults. Milk costs remain low, tickets available by week month semester or year, and refunds apply to unused portions. Head cook is Mrs. Laura Bolton entering her 13th year. Polk High Star Dennis Sealey Joins Shrine South Squad

The Polk County Historical Society crowned living heirs of original homesteads with Honorary Lifetime Memberships at the Friday fair program. August Carlson, on Sec 28-14-3, marks 88 years on his father C. H. Carlson’s homestead since 1872, among eight named recipients listed with section and pioneer names.

Polk invites the community to its annual free Bean Day on Saturday August 27 with a parade and closing dance at the Community Hall. The program features beans barbecue beef baseball races homemade ice cream airplane rides penny per pound carnival and local concessions ending with 35for early evening entertainment.
