Swede Plain WSCS Holds August Meeting

The Swede Plain WSCS met in the church basement August 9 at 8 p.m. with devotional leader Mrs Willard Adelson. President Mrs Lester Widga opened the business session as program leaders led readings and songs. Guests the Shermans and Henry Reed with Delton Wegner joined for weekend visits.

Warren Albert general manager of the Columbus Races announces the post time for Saturday cards is 2 PM. Previously advertised 3 PM weekday times and 4 PM Friday Special Twilight time are not in effect for weekend events.

Mr and Mrs Eugene Klingsporn welcomed a baby boy named Tyler Lee on August 10 at York hospital weighing 8 pounds 8 ounces. Mrs June Hewitt of York visited Mr and Mrs Charles Norquest. Mr and Mrs Ted Dittmer and family were guests of Mrs Carl Ferguson in Lincoln.

Polk Girls Softball Team Wins State Class B Title

The Polk girls softball team captured the State Class B championship at Hooper, defeating the Lincoln Hawkers 7 to 5 after a tournament run that saw wins over Hooper, Oakland, Uehling, and finally Lincoln. Pitcher Carol Rasmussen earned honorary All-State honors as Polk went undefeated in double elimination.

WSCS Meeting Highlights At Local Church

The WSCS met on Thursday August 3 at the church. President Mrs C Marvin Fredrickson led the session with program directors Mrs Anna Kisler and Mrs Richard Sealey Jr in charge. Debra and Virginia Mil len presented accordion sales and a trio performed. Hostesses were Mrs James Lindburg Mrs Ollie Johnson and Mrs Arlo Stevens.

Ladies host Swedish guests at Mrs Oscar Anderson home

A group of ladies were entertained Thursday afternoon in the home of Mrs Oscar Anderson honoring her two sisters from Sweden. Mr and Mrs Wendall Shaw and family attended the Shaw family picnic Sunday at Sherman dam. Relatives from Polk, Benedict, York, and Lincoln were present.

Local Man Wins Golf Trophy for Hole In One Spectacle

Burdette Flodman, a first year golfer, received the Riverside Golf Club special trophy after making a remarkable shot on No. 8 that drove the ball through a window into the clubhouse. He aims to improve next season and hopes to drive out through the opposite window. His trophy is on display at Citizens State Bank in Polk.

Gerald C Holm born March 9 1917 on his Osceola area farm died August 6 1967 in Lincoln at age 50.
