Henry B E Werth 82 died unexpectedly at his Polk home on August 7. Funeral services were held August 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church Polk. He was born January 22 1887 near Hampton and moved to Polk in 1940. He married Alvina Fenster in 1910. Survived by wife, son Alton, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, plus a brother and sister. Interment in Hampton Cemetery.

Army Awards Three Medals To Spec 5 Edward Johnson
Spec 5 Eddie Johnson son of Mr and Mrs Harlan Johnson of Polk has sent home three medals earned in the first half of 1969. The Bronze Medal honored meritorious service January through June 1969. The Army Commendation Medal with V device was awarded on April 11, 1969. The Soldier's Medal recognized action on April 2, 1969 when he aided casualties and helped extinguish flames during a fire at Fire Base Dunaway while serving as Radio Repairman with Co B 6th Battalion 31st Infantry. He acted with complete disregard for his own safety as two men were severely burned and ammunition posed danger.
