Mr. Jerry Rockwell, a Lincoln High graduate and Kearney State College alumnus of 1969, majored in English and Social Science. He will teach English, Speech, and American Government and sponsor drama activities, with golf noted as a familiar hobby in central Nebraska.
Miss Leigh Ann Gustafson graduated from the Mary Lanning School of Nursing on Friday August 1 in Hastings. Attendees from the area included the Gustafson and Shoup families and other relatives, with Dr. Paul DeFreeze of Kountze Memorial Church delivering the address to twenty graduates. Leigh Ann will stay in Hastings, employed at Mary Lanning Hospital.
Polk High School selects Miss Marjorie Clabaugh to lead home economics classes and sponsor the Pep Club. She is a 1969 University of Nebraska graduate in home economics, who attended Aurora High School in 1965 и has interests in music and skating.
The Baptist CYF youth rally is set for Sunday at 2 PM in York City Auditorium with speakers Sam Budda John Bodenmiller and Buddy Medlock. The film Without Unions will be shown.
Mr and Mrs Raymond Sundberg observed their golden anniversary with an open house at the Baptist Church on August 17 1969. Nearly 200 guests attended as family hosted the event with a six o clock dinner for 50 relatives at their home and many cards gifts and flowers were received.
Polk Community Club outlines committees for the September 5 and 6 Bean Day events. Teen Dance hosts include the Neuhaus, Anderson, Adelson, Burney families. volunteers cover picnic and serving tables, clean up, raffles, coffee, children’s races, beans cooking, pots, bingo, stage, barbecued chicken, and wood cutting. Tickets: carnival rides 7 for $1. advance sale through Polk merchants. Chicken barbecue debuts this year with half-chicken plates at 1.00 starting 5 PM.
Mr and Mrs Hugo Person will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with an open house at Hordville Baptist Church on Sunday August 31 from 2 to 4 PM. Hosts include their children Maynard Jensen Shelton Kenneth Bjorkman Marquette Wayne Person Hardville and Kenneth Person Cincinnati. Relatives and friends invited. no gifts requested.
Mr and Mrs Edd Coover will be honored with an open house at Polk United Methodist Church on Sunday August 24 1969 from 2 to 4 pm. Friends and relatives are invited without further notice. No gifts please.
Mr and Mrs Danny Garner announce a daughter born August 16 at St Francis Hospital Grand Island weighing 6 pounds 13 ounces. Mr and Mrs Myron Norquest announce a baby boy born August 7 at York Hospital weighing 8 pounds 12 ounces named Jason Lewis.
Polk High School appoints Richard Hoops to lead the Industrial Arts Department Driving Training and to coach basketball He is a Humboldt Iowa High School and Wayne State College graduate class of 1966 His family includes wife and three children Kimberlie Kristil and Richard Jr with two children in school.
The Kordsmen Quartet from Neligh Nebraska will perform original and familiar gospel songs at Polk Methodist Church Friday at 8. A free will offering will be taken and all are invited.
The Nebraska High School Coaches Association sponsors the first annual all star basketball game set for Friday August 22 at 8 PM in Pershing Auditorium Lincoln. Tickets are available at Polk Oil Company.

Mr and Mrs Clarence Rodine marked their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday August 17 at the Polk Free Church. Their three West Coast sons attended with families, with Marie Anderson and Oscar Sundberg from Medford and served by Polk Women’s Missionary Society. About 350 guests attended the program and refreshments followed.
