Covenant Bible Camp Opens North of Hordville

The Covenant Bible Camp three miles north of Hordville opened Monday and runs until August 15. The 30 acre site was donated by Arvid Carlson to the Nebraska Covenant Sunday School and Young People's League. The chapel seats 800 to 1000 and is near completion. Cottages and other facilities guard running water power and mail service for about 300 residents. The camp is valued around 75000 dollars and hosts a dedication service August 14 at 2 30 pm with hymns devotions and speakers from several churches.

Good flax crop reported by pastor farmer in Polk county

Rev Edick Anderson, Hardville Baptist Church pastor and Polk county farmer, reports a good flax crop after planting at 10 bushels per acre. He sold seed at 3.99 dollars per bushel and notes strong market demand for both seed and straw. With improved weather, yields may reach 20 to 40 bushels.

Royal Neighbors Picnic in Polk Park

The Royal Neighbors of Polk and Hordville with families held a Sunday evening picnic supper in Polk park. Sixty attended and the evening included games. Mrs. Dale Scott and two California children visited relatives, while Charles Lytle of New York returned to Polk to visit his parents. he works with United States Lines.

Commercial Club Sponsors Road Repair West of Polk

The Commercial Club led a community effort to fix a two mile highway west of Polk. With Leo Wurtz as president, 22 businesses and 25 farmers donate labor and matériel while the state provides a grading outfit and Polk County clears trees. The club spends 150 dollars on fuel and meals and expects about two weeks of work to improve access to Grand Island, 35 miles away. Community members and local families share updates on gatherings and visits in the accompanying notes.

Arborville Vacation School Closes After Successful Year

The largest vacation church school in the community ended last weekend with final classes Saturday and a Sunday public program. Seventy pupils contributed offerings to benevolent causes andMemory work songs and exhibits were shared. The total enrollment reached 60 with staff including Mrs Harold Bedient and others.

Californians Honored at Family Picnic in Stromsburg

A Buckley Park picnic in Stromsburg honored Anton Wilson and his Los Angeles bride. Wilson, mayor of Pladentia California, spoke and shared wedding photos. Terrace Demonstration Attendance Near One Hundred

Polk County Extension reports near 100 attendees on August 2 as Soil Conservation District crews showcased terrace construction with Raymond Burke and John Deere gear and Bob Oberg with Ford equipment. The event covered site planning, future terrace development, and plans to expand across the farm with season and rotation. Farmers were urged to secure good seed wheat ahead of planting and noted Polk County’s high seed suitability relative to neighboring counties.

Road work advances on Highway 66 east of Polk

The Roberts Construction Company of Lincoln, hired by county state and federal road departments, is rebuilding the road east from Polk to Highway 81. Begun in July, completion is expected in about two weeks. about half the grading is done, delays on the Blue River bridge persist. Roughly 45 workers and six scrapers are in service. gravelting is anticipated for present use.

4 H Fun Luncheon Held By Nine Girls

The 4 H club of nine girls held a Fun Luncheon at the Strand home last Wednesday at 1 30 pm to break routine. They helped decorate the table used green and white 4 H colors in the nut cups candles and napkins. Each girl planned prepared and served portions of the meal and even washed the dishes. Carmen Sandell played a piano solo and Jo Ellyn gave a stunt after which a brief business meeting adjourned.
