The American Sunday School Union hosts the first Annual Young Peoples Bible Conference at Polk Bible Camp grounds from August 10 to 14. Morning classes start at 9:00 a.m. on topics including Christian Doctrine and The Life of Christ. Evangelistic service opens at 8:00 p.m. with public invitation. The faculty includes Rev. and Mrs. J H Koehler Chadron Nebr Rev I C Noyce Wheatland Wyoming and Rev and Mrs C P Turner Minden Nebr.
The annual Farmers Union Picnic at Polk on August 11 offers a full day of entertainment for families. Races ball games and contests are on the program with St G Keeney of Omaha the State President of Farmers Union expected to speak.
Reports say Mr and Mrs R H Thesing were en route to Hot Springs Arkansas and met an automobile accident near Aurora at about nine o clock in the morning. They were critically hurt with Mr Thesing reported to have a fractured skull and Mrs Thesing a broken leg. Relatives were notified by A Tsaaesen who was first notified.
The Evangelical Free Bible Camp hosts the Annual Young Peoples and Sunday School Conference August 16 to 21 with Rev. Harry P. Lundell of Chicago and H. B. Prince of Minneapolis as speakers. Lundell leads forenoon Bible Hours on Ephesians. Prince presents evening messages at 7 30. A Junior Bible Camp for ages 10 to 18 runs August 22 to 26. A variety of wholesome activities offers physical and spiritual benefit for boys and girls.
Local golfer Carl Steelquist of Polk teamed with Elgin White of Central City to defeat Bill Everett and Howard Jones 3 and 1 on the eighth hole in the Central City two-ball foursome championship. The event drew more club golfers this year than any prior and was likened to Sunny Atlanta and Omaha in regional praise.
The Flying Fingers Sewing Club met at Elizabeth Smith home on Wednesday July 27 with Norma Lind assisting. An afternoon demonstration was followed by refreshments. An Achievement Day will be held at District 59 Maple Grove School.
Polk County readers note Wm. McGaffin son of Hugh McGaffin, a Polk native, has advanced in journalism. Trained at The Progress, he was sent to London last year by the Associated Press to run their office there. Sun day dailies reported his interview with a blonde lady close to Hitler. His articles appear regularly and draw interest.

Miss Geneva Green daughter of Clyde and Mrs Green wed Clyde Cantrell son of Mr and Mrs C E Cantrell of Central City in a Polk home ceremony. Rev Paul Carlson officiated in presence of relatives. The couple plans to reside in Central City after September 1.
Dr C R Peterson moves his dental practice into the Progress building formerly used by Dr Westfall. The rooms are refurnished with new decorations and improved accessibility for patients in Bl.
The Dorcas group will gather Friday evening for a Home Missions program. Members are urged to bring treasure chests. Several social visits are noted, including gatherings at Monson, Peterson, and Fredrickson homes with relatives from Stanton Iowa to Davenport Nebraska and back.
