Robert Juven infant son of Phillip and Lorence Johnagon of Polk Nebraska was born New Year’s Day and died July 24 1929 after six months and twenty three days of illness. Funeral services were held at the home and Swede Plain cemetery officiated by Rev J W Ekwall. The family expresses sorrow and thanks for support during the baby’s brief life.
The notice lists J L Hedbloom as pastor and Ellen Larson as Sunday School Superintendent. Morning worship at 11:00 with brief sermon, communion and reception of new members to follow. Evening service at 7:30. Union Gospel service in City Park at 8:00.
Market report July 31 1929 at Union Stock Yards notes steady to lower hogs with a 10 to 15 cent drop and sheep lambs generally steady. Cattle turned slow with bids steady to 25 cents lower. top cattle at 16.00, varied steers and heifers priced across a broad range reflecting weaker overall demand.
Local packers and order buyers showed broad demand but offerings were limited. Prices fell by about 10 to 16 cents from Monday with sluggish movement. Best light butchers weighed up to 11.25 dollars and most hogs sold within 9.75 to 11.15 dollars. Receipts reached 7,000 head.
Ten thousand fresh sheep and lambs arrived Tuesday and sold slowly on a practically steady basis. Best western lambs brought 3.25 dollars, native lambs up to 12.75, aged sheep unchanged. Fat lambs ranged 11.50 to 13.25 with variations by grade, and Western feeders ranged 11.50 to 13.25 with similar quality splits.
