Polk Summer Recreation Program Organizes Youth Sports

The Polk Community Club launches a summer program with girls teams in three age groups and boys teams across three age brackets. May 12 marks first girls practices at 6 30, 7 30, and 8 30. boys practices to be announced. Teams join the Little Six League with Gresham, Waco, Benedict, Shelby, Osceola, and Polk.

Sixth Grade Fund Drive Supports Warren Bedient Fund

The Polk elementary sixth grade collected 35 dollars for the Warren Bedient Fund. Nina Burke teaches. A contributor left 25 dollars by check. Funds from the Progress and Polk Community Club push total to 5915.03 dollars in the local bank as of Tuesday, April 28.

All-Sports Banquet Set For May 9 At Polk High

Polk High School will host its annual All-Sports Banquet on Saturday May 9. A student supper at 6 30 p m precedes the awards program. At 8 p m the public may attend the ceremony featuring Al Zikmund athletic director at Kearney State College.

League tournament schedules and new uniforms announced

The 15-18 tournament is set for Polk in the first week of August. The 12-14 event will be at Benedict and the 7-11 at Shelby with dates to be announced. New uniforms have been bought for the boys and two smaller girls teams, funded by seed corn dealers. Age differential for all teams is August minus one.

Sister of Ivan and M O Johnson of Polk and Julius Johnson of Osceola. Attending from Polk were Mr. and Mrs. Johnson and Duane Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Johnson Mrs. Wayne Creech and Lynette.

Polk High Students Shine At District Music Contest

Polk High students earned strong ratings at the District Music Contest held April 24 at Hastings College Campus. The event drew 40 schools and about 3000 entries, with ratings I Superior II Excellent III Very Good and IV Fair. Notable selections include JoAnn Stevens and Becky Stevens in vocal solos, Gail Widga in instrumental solos, and multiple choirs and ensembles earning II and III ratings.
