Marvin Schulze 48 of Hordville died April 24 at Clarkson Hospital after heart surgery. Funeral was April 27 at Immanuel Lutheran near Polk. burial at Immanuel Cemetery. Schulze survived by wife Annette and four children. The piece notes April rainfall, 2.89 inches, improving planting prospects for area farmers and easing fears for spring crops.
Ev Free Church Polk hosts a daily Vacation Bible School from May 24 to 28, 9:00 am to 2:30 pm for ages 3 to 8th grade. Bring a sack lunch. younger children may be dismissed after lunch. Senior Citizens plan a bingo event on Wednesday May 5 at 2 00 pm at the Legion Hall with attendees and community involvement indicated.
Senator Frank Church of Idaho, Democratic candidate for president, will arrive in Central City at 12 30 p m Sunday May 9 at North Park or the 4 H Building at the Fairgrounds if weather requires. He will join Merrick County residents for a picnic dinner and discuss his views in person. Tickets are purchased by attendees while Merrick County Democrats provide the food.
Edna Sundberg was dismissed from York hospital on Monday. Fred Stellars is a patient in Central City hospital. Mrs Russell Fjell learned last week of her brother Howard Nelsons serious illness in Portland Oregon and he has undergone major surgery and remains hospitalized. Bill Tallman was admitted to York hospital Friday April 16 after breaking his leg and dismissed Thursday April 22. Mrs Sondra Fiedler of Norfolk was airlifted to Rochester Minnesota Friday with husband Dr Herbert Feidler and mother Mrs Glen Hill. room 1126 at St Marys Hospital.
The Route 66 Riders greeted the Bicentennial Wagon Train at the Polk County line near Clarks Bridge on Friday April 23. President Lynn Sundberg carried the club banner as the Riders escorted the wagons into Polk County. After an 11 am break with two decorated cakes by Lynda Sundberg, riders and families from Polk and Hardville joined in the encampment visit at the Polk County fairgrounds. Nine wagons with oxen, mules and horses drew the crowd to the wagon train show and Chuck Wagon Dinner. The evening featured a packed high school auditorium with a 40 minute musical program celebrating Spirit of America and community talent.
Polk American Legion Post 160 offers two $150 scholarships to Polk High School graduates. Candidates from the senior class will be chosen with alternates. Scholarships may be used at any approved school, paid directly to the chosen institution, and emphasize attendance at technical, state, business, or other programs.
The Pleasant Home Precinct Cancer Drive reports 202 dollars raised from 151 families across 63 sections. Precinct chairman Mrs Irvin Anderson thanks numerous volunteers including Mrs Joyce Sealey and Mrs Le land Harless, noting Mrs Clifford Bowman completed her solicitations first and a 99 percent response rate.
