Running Water and Toilet Training During Power Outages

A father with many children explains that without electricity the farmhouse pump won’t run and water must be fetched outdoors. The two youngest refuse to use the yard toilet, so the father brings water inside for flushing, noting running water has many meanings. Bicentennial Wagon Train to Camp at Polk County Fairgrounds

The National Bicentennial Pilgrimage Wagon Train arrives in Polk County Friday April 23 with a 4 PM stop near Osceola. Officials invite locals to join as riders for varying durations, with a Chuck Wagon Dinner at the fairgrounds and a 7:30 PM show followed by local talent.

Hospital Notes From Hastings Area Update

Herschel Shenk is a patient at Mary Lanning hospital in Hastings. Gilbert Lampshire and wife returned home last Monday after Gilbert’s surgery in Rochester Mn. He entered the hospital April 4 and had surgery April 5 and was hospitalized seven days. Roger Carlstrom was admitted to York hospital on Tuesday.

Easter Egg Hunt Held Indoors At Legion Hall

Twenty seven youngsters from first through sixth grades enjoyed an Easter party at the American Legion hall last Friday April 16. Windy conditions moved the egg hunt indoors with games and colored eggs marking prizes. Lunch of sandwiches cupcakes and orange kool aid was served by the youth and children department committee.

Mr and Mrs Raymond Stankel were honored for 20 years of marriage at a Sunday family dinner April 11 at the Holiday Inn in Grand Island.
