Gustafsons Observe 40th Wedding Anniversary
Mr and Mrs Robert Gustafson celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with immediate family and about 40 guests on Saturday April 24 in Polk County. Attendants included three of four children Robel Betty and Robert Jr and two grandchildren with relatives from Wichita Lincoln York Grand Island Osceola and nearby towns. The couple wed April 22 1914 in Swede Plain and now reside one half mile east of Polk. Poems group singing a mock wedding and a buffet lunch highlighted the evening.

4H Leaders Feted By County Bankers
The Seventh Annual 4 H Leaders Banquet sponsored by Polk County Bankers was held at Osceola High School Auditorium on Monday evening April 19. The program featured Mr. Elmer Nordlund as toastmaster, Mrs. Lavelle Lamore led singing, and Don Byers delivered a welcome. Joe Watson County Agricultural Agent spoke of his European travels and the W O W Farm Tour. About 120 4 H leaders and spouses attended as awards were presented by Miss Crosby and Mr. Schmidt.

School Board Buys Peterson Property at Auction
The School Board of District No. 72 was the high bidder at a public auction of the late Nellie Petersons residence. The house sold for 3200 dollars to the school board as the winning bidder last Saturday.

Obituary of Amelia Betsie Johanna Friedman Flodman
Amelia Betsie Johanna Friedman Flodman, daughter of Peter E. and Sophia Shostrom, born February 28 1897 on a Stromsburg area farm, died April 18 1964 at Stromsburg Hospital aged 57. She married Curtis W. Flodman February 15 1928 and had two sons Wayland and Burdette, remained active in Swede Plain Church, survived by husband, two sons, two daughters in law Arlene and Phyllis, three brothers Dana Willie Mabel Robert and a sister, plus many relatives and friends. Her memory endures in a personal poem and family reflections. (Continued on back page)

Polk Grade Tracksters Finish Third at Conference Meet
The Polk grade team took third place at the Columbus conference meet on April 20 as St. Paul led with 57 points and Clarks near second with 54. Polk ended with 52 after a late disqualification of its second place relay due to a bump. Joe Hahn set a new 880 conference record at 2.35.6. Frank Harding tied for high jump with Booth at 4 4. Bruce Johnson, Henry Dittmer, Larry Nyberg and Charles Nelson also placed.

Pleasant Homemakers Meet With Dianne Sandell
The Pleasant Homemakers 4 H Club gathered at Dianne Sandell's home after noon last Saturday. Members answered roll call with cookie making hints and judged muffings and kitchen tools while prizes were awarded to Karen Stevens and Avis Waller for high project scores. A Cancer Fund donation was made. The group planned a "Let's Sew" project for the next meeting and hostesses served an Easter themed luncheon.

Fire destroys hog house and corn on Walter Fisher farm
Twenty five minutes after ignition, observers note rapid burn of a hog house and 1800 bushels of corn on the Walter and Ralph Fisher farm. Rain did not stop the flames, and the corn remained hot through Wednesday afternoon, delaying cleanup.

The Rainbow Rebekah Lodge met April 22. Delegates Marie Kahler and Emma Person reported on the District Convention at Central City. Planning May Baskets for shut-ins as an annual project, the group decided to honor older members for Mother's Day. Sick members Bethel King Ada Dahlgren and Ruth Miller were reported. A $2 donation was made. Lunch served to twenty nine members by hostesses Crystal Cramer and Elizabeth Otte.
