Polk County Bond Sales Reflect Confidence in Savings Plan

Polk County residents bought 156231.25 in Savings Bonds in March. State Director Leland R. Hall reported Nebraska total sales at 16984419.82 with 72 percent in Series E bonds. He praised the record, noting bond sales were only 8 percent below last year despite price declines.

Pleasant Home Makers 4 H Club Hosts Easter Afternoon

Miss Shirley Stevens hosted the Pleasant Home Makers 4 H Club meeting on Saturday with most members in attendance. Guest Home Agent Margaret Crosby spoke. Marilyn Hahn led the meeting and demonstrated Cutting Carrot Strips. songs by Marilyn, Sherallee and Sondra Hill. Natalie Hahn showed proper table settings. roll call, vegetable favorites, and prep methods were shared. menu judging and a vegetable quiz were held. Gwendolyn Fillman in Japan sent photos and letters. donations were given to Crippled Children's Easter Drive, Salvation Army, and Grace Children's Home in Henderson. a two course lunch concluded the event.

Easter Services Attended at Hanscom Park Church

Mr and Mrs Ernest Flodman and Mr and Mrs Walter Stohl with Gary and Cheryl attended Easter services at Hanscom Park Methodist Church in Omaha. About 553 people were present. Afterward they visited at the home of the farmers son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Joe Kralik and family.

Nebraska Augustana Lutherans Convene at Swede Home

The 63rd Nebraska Conference of Augustana Lutheranism meets at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran in Swede Home Alfield E Franzen pastor from Sunday 8 p m through Tuesday afternoon. Notable speakers include Rev C Oscar Leonardson Rev Heinrich Falk and Rev David Wikner with events by the Lutheran Brotherhood. Dinner and supper served Monday and Tuesday. over 150 guests expected.

Snowstorm Cripples Area Roads and Power Lines

Last Thursday a heavy wet snow blanketed the area eight inches deep causing highway closures on 30A 92 and 81 between Osceola and Shelby. Communications and power lines were knocked out for much of the day with long distance lines and Consumers Power affected. By Friday sun returned and drifts lingered.

Easter Sunrise Service At Methodist Church

The MYF held a sunrise service and breakfast at the Methodist church. Miss Matilda Erickson of Neward Wisconsin gave the guest speech before about 40 attendees enjoyed the morning activities.

Funeral for Will Rudy Draws Family and Friends

Mr and Mrs Cleo Cramer attend the funeral of his uncle Will Rudy at Grand Island last Wednesday. Pallbearers include Clifford Ivan Cleo Everett Emory and Harold Cramer. Polk County Extension outlines Regional Weed Meeting in Columbus on April 20 with equipment and chemical displays plus demonstrations. Topics include Seed Cleaning and Treating and farmer experience plus movies. Additional items cover swine roundworms with sodium fluoride, 4-H club camp plans at Seward, weed district cleaning service results, Clark McNary Trees orders, and tuberculosis testing of poultry flocks with countywide education efforts.

Rites Scheduled for Shelby Soldier Glenn Gondringer

The body of Glenn N. Gondringer son of N V and Francis Gondringer will arrive in Shelby by Thursday April 21. The Polk County serviceman was killed in action in Germany on April 8 1945. Funeral services set for Sacred Heart church Shelby at 10 AM Saturday April 23 with burial in Sacred Heart cemetery.

Polk High School News Highlights April Activities

Lyle Gill will address Polk High School students Wednesday on Russian communism with afternoon talks in Stromsburg and Osceola. Seniors stage Here Comes Charlie on April 22. The Polk County Teachers Association meets April 29 at 7 30. Seniors practice teach in rural schools April 25 29: Leland Anderson Dorothy Dahlin Annette Johnson and Rodonna Lindholm. The York Chamber invites bands to the first postwar out of state University of Nebraska concert in York April 26 at 3 00 led by Donald A Lentz. The 95 piece band will march Main Street before the concert. A farm note covers hog counts in 1947 and 1948 percentages unchanged.

Betty Gustafson and James Barbee United in Double Ring Ceremony

Betty Gustafson daughter of Mr and Mrs Reuben C Gustafson and James M Barbee son of Dr and Mrs J S Barbee of Sutton were married at four o clock Sunday in First Baptist Church Wordville. The ceremony featured a double ring rite with music by Mrs E Stanley Torpin and soloist Karl H Stuermer. Attendants wore pastel gowns and bouquets of roses glace and snapdragons. The reception followed for 150 in the church parlor. The couple's honeymoon will span New Mexico and other southwest locations. Betty is a University of Nebraska graduate and taught in Sutton and Hardville. Barbee is a Kansas State graduate.

Final Rites for Claus Lindahl Pioneer of Hordville

Claus Emil Lindahl a Smaland Sweden native born November 19 1872 died April 9 1949 at Bryan Memorial Hospital Lincoln. He lived near Hordville for decades contributed to community growth and family includes wife Ida two daughters Edith and Naomi a son died in infancy. Funeral services were held at Brauer Funeral Home Polk and Fridhem Lutheran Church Hordville with Rev. Edward T Chindwall officiating and singing by Mrs Lloyd Kroger and others.
