National Air Mail Week Observed in Polk County
The week of May 15 to 21 is designated National Air Mail Week by the U S Post Office to celebrate the 1918 inception of air mail and promote its use. Osceola will host a stop on May 19 with private planes aiding pickups from Grand Island to several Nebraska towns.

Altering Auto License Plates Leads to Fine
Frank Kohout, a Schuyler city employee, faced a county charge for attaching improper altered license plates. Appearing before County Judge Wm. H. Roether, he pleaded guilty and was fined 25.00 plus 7.16 costs. Authorities noted the 1936 plates were altered to resemble 1938 plates using solder to disguise the letter G as g.
