Polk Garden Club Meets At Bertha Brazda Home

Thirteen members and one visitor attended the Polk Garden Club meeting held April 16 at Bertha Brazda’s home with Garnet Miller assisting. Edna Nieman led a lesson on unusual vegetables and their pollination while Violet Sundberg led the business session planning Main St baskets and garden plantings. Lunch was served by the hostesses after the meeting.

Students and families host weekend visits across town

Marie Carlson of Wesleyan University in Lincoln spent the weekend with her parents, Mr and Mrs Harold Carlson. The children of Mr and Mrs Verland Widga were guests in the Everett Goertzen home over the weekend. Mr and Mrs Carl Pettit of West Point were Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Everett Goertzen and family.

National feed grain outlook shows reduced acreage this year

The 1968 national feed grain plan calls for about 113 million acres planted, 7 million less than 1967 and 3 million below 1965 postwar lows. Corn down to 65 million acres and sorghums down 2.2 million. Oats and barley rise slightly. 34 million acres diverted to conservation. With normal yields, output about 166 million tons, total supply near 208 million tons, and prices fluctuating with season.

Sunday Socials Across Clarks and Nearby

Polk area residents shared a weekend of visits and hospitality. Mr and Mrs Joe Ehn visited Mr and Mrs Dodge Clardy in Clarks while Mrs Susan Gertsch returned from Columbus. Several couples dined or hosted gatherings at Rudolph Gustafson’s home and Pastor Harold Koelling joined Reuben Hanquist and Bertha Jones for Midwest Conference events in Wichita.

Sunday afternoon visitors included Mrs Jerry Kittner of Lincoln and Mr and Mrs Robert Brazda and family. Gideon cabinet meeting attendees from Aurora joined others at Norfolk Saturday. plus numerous local social calls between Hoffman Whittemore, Gon nerman Stromsburg and Osceola regions.
