Mas Irvin Anderson likely saved Sheralee Hill from serious injury when she leaped to grab the girl as the two fell through a hole covered by cardboard in a remodelled home. Mrs Anderson suffered multiple fractures while shielding the child.

Governor names Kokjer to Fifth District Court
Gov Val Peterson Friday appointed Deputy Atty Gen H Emer Kokjer of Wahoo as judge of the Fifth judicial district to replace the late Judge L S Hastings of David City. Kokjer, 48, became assistant attorney general in 1939 and deputy in 1940. He was born in Clarks Neb, graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1922 and practiced law in Wahoo. The appointment runs until the 1948 general election. A World War I veteran, Kokjer served in France and the Hawaiian Islands.

The Midwest Evangelical Free Church annual conference closed Sunday night April 20 at Polk Evangelical Free Church. Rev Paul A Cassel of Holdrege delivered a sermon urging all ages to respond to Christ. Superintendent H A Fangerstrom described plans to expand gospel work in Nebraska and nearby states including new churches and the Midwest Gospel Hour on KMMT Grand Island. Rev Carl W Nelson of Concord led the closing sermon from Proverbs, urging defense of the church’s children against ungodliness. Business sessions reappointed staff and elected officers including Rev Wina Anderson as chair, Rev Milford E Olson as secretary, and Rev Walter J Cahill as trustee.
