Polk High Students Shine At District Music Contest

Fifty six Polk High competitors attended the district seven Music Contest at Central City with up to 23 schools entering. Polk earned three superior ratings for Sondra Hill clarinet solo mixed chorus and girls glee club. Excellent ratings went to Jim Adelson Marilyn Bahn Mary Lou Sandell Virginia Warding and Sondra Hill. Good ratings were given to Marie Lavelle Beverly Peetzke the Polk band and trombone duet. Accompanists were Marie Lavelle Carlyn Strand and Sondra Hill. Polk's Miss Joyce Hunt led the music program with a strong showing by the Class D entrants.

Youth Group Conducts Sunday Service at Polk Church

The Mathoodist Youth Pelrow ship led the Sunday morning service at Polk Church with Shirley Stevens reading scripture and ushers De Janda Flodman Larry Cramer and Gerald King assisting. Kathleen Holmes gave a five minute talk on The Grace Of God and Vern Samuels spoke on Happiness.

Support A Great Cause Wear A Poppy

Obituary for Oliver Moline in California and Nebraska

Oliver Moline 85 died April 14 1963 in Los Angeles after a heart attack. Born November 29 1867 in Smoland Sweden he immigrated 1885 and farmed near Polk Stromsburg St Edward later in Doland South Dakota. Funeral held in Stromsburg Nebraska with burial at Laclede Cemetery near Polk. survivors include sister in law nieces nephews and three daughters.

Polk Grade Track Team Takes Second at Conference Meet

Polk grade track team finished second to Stromsburg at the conference meet on Monday. Scoring shows Stromsburg first with wide lead, Polk and nearby schools battling for second. Polk entrants include Roger Merchant 60 yd dash 4.8 sec, Henry Dittmer 110 yd dash 14.5 sec, Gary Skaden 880 yd run 2.41.4, Jos Hahn 880 yard, 2.56, 440 yd relay 1.10, Frank Harding pole vault 1st, and Bruce Johnson with team members.

Arberville Congregational Church led by Nelson hosts Sunday services with morning worship on The Church His Body based on Ephesians 1 22 23. Gerry King Shines At Hastings Track Meet

Gerry King established himself as a top state miler by finishing third at the Hastings College Invitational. He led most of the mile before breaking stride late, clocking 4.53.8, among the season’s top nine times. It was only his second clocked mile race.

District WSCS Conference Held at Genoa

The District Conference of the W S C S of the Methodist Church held at Genoa Thursday was attended by Mmes Philip Johnson Glenn Hill Arthur Samuelson Marvin Fredrickson Harvey Lind Leslie Adelson Oscar Person Mervin Samuels Lennis Lind Ninton O Connor Paul Strand Richard Sealey and Arlo Stevens. A large attendance benefited from the inspiring program. An In Remembrance Service was held and the new District officers were installed by Conference President Mrs A R Marquardt of Lincoln. Our local member Mrs Paul Strand had been reelected as District Treasurer Mrs Marquardt was guest speaker giving a worthwhile talk. Mrs Ella Shenk and Mrs Chas Lytle were callers Thursday in the homes of Charlie Knapp and Henry Renquist of Benedict.

Charles W. Miller Farm To Be Sold At Auction

A 129 acre improved farm in Polk County known as the Charles W. Miller farm will be sold next Tuesday at the south front door of the Osceola courthouse. The auction begins at 2 oclock in the afternoon on April 28. Norton and Norton are the lawyers for the estate and Philip H Nyberg is administrator.

AH Club Serves Needy With Specialties Drive

Linda Gustafson hosted the Pleasant Homemakers 4-H Club meeting. Members reported dishwashing counts, prize awarded to Avis Waller, and spectacles donated to Wyes For The Needy. A York Hospital magazine report and a Crusade for Freedom donation were shared along with a Keep Well lesson.

Boxer Baby Beef Club Meeting Plans Show and Judging
