Swede Plains M E Church under Minister E E Pengelly announces Sunday worship at 10:00 with Sunday School at 11:00. Easter Morning service to be held at 7 PM with Good Friday night service in Polk. services will be in the church proper.
Pastor Carl F Juergensen leads Holy Communion German service at 9:30 a.m. and English service at 10:30 a.m. on Good Friday, with Easter Sunday services at 9:00 a.m. Special Easter reflections urge believers to celebrate Christ risen and victory over sin.
Methodist and Free Methodist churches schedule Sunday School at 10, Worship at 11, and Easter services with a 6 am sunrise and 3:30 pm choir concert. Good Friday service at 8 pm and details for Holy Week events shared. Fridhem Lutheran hosts Good Friday and Easter events with a bask on Monday unseen.
Children in Polk eagerly await Easter Parade on Saturday April 16. Prize hunt offers 750 candy eggs worth 1 5 and 10 cents with refunds to the committee. All under high school age may compete and assemble at the school house before the parade starts at 3 PM. Local shops promise special bargains for the event.
The Commercial Club met Monday at City Hall with about 45 attendees including business and professional women and guests. A high school music group performed while reports on club activities were heard. W W Norton of Osceola gave an entertaining talk on small town life. The group planned one final summer meeting with added entertainment and plans for a public band concert.
The Rainbow Rebekah Lodge hosts the 14th District Convention at Polk’s IOOF Hall with 75 delegates expected. Assembly President Margaret I. Chamberlain of Chadron will be the guest, along with other officers, as 12:30 registration precedes sessions and a 6:00 banquet at the church parlors.
Plans nearly complete for the Polk County Council of Christian Education convention to be held at Wesley Chapel Church Sunday afternoon and evening of April 24. Rev J C White of Lincoln general secretary of the state will speak at each session. Local people will give talks and a musical program is being arranged. Every Sunday School worker and teacher in the county should plan to attend.
Sleh ering Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Green celebrate their Silver Wedding with about 50 relatives and friends at home. The party featured silver decorations a three tier angel food cake contests and a mock wedding followed by luncheon. Guests included Ed Glas Omaha Fred Bedient Sargent Bluff Stella McGregor Central City Gerald Whitworth Grand Island Elmer Allison and more.
Seventy five relatives and friends gathered Sunday afternoon at the Otto Wilshusen home to celebrate the couple's 25th wedding anniversary. Out of town guests from Howell Nebraska Ravenna Hampton York and Atlantic Town attended. A angel food cake baked by Serena Meerkatz of York was centerpiece. Guests enjoyed social time and a 5 pm luncheon. The honored couple received overalls and other gifts and well wishes for many more years of happiness.
Polk High School students enjoy a week off as the old assembly room is converted into three classrooms and a new superintendent's office is erected. By next Monday the pupils return to a newly expanded building with completion expected in early May and a possible dedication soon. Mr and Mrs Lester Stark were in York on business Monday.
Village Board passed an occupation tax ordinance to charge outsiders such as pedl ers and truckers and require receipts before selling in the city. Merchants urge residents to check tax receipts prior to purchases to ensure tax collection and shared city costs.
Tax records show women own one fifth of Polk County s 276000 acres of farm bond land on 1800 farms. Four hundred seventy tenants lease from women. About half of landowners live outside Polk. Total acreage in women s names is 53407.

A luncheon followed and she received several gifts.
Asolyes Peterson of Big Springs Nebraska stayed several days in the W A Stevens home. Mrs A K Crow and Edna and Lloyd Van Housen were Omaha visitors on Saturday. Mr and Mrs Ed Ostberg of Marquette were Sunday guests in the Was Ostberg home. Miss Virginia Peterson is visiting this week in the David Carlson home at Fremont.
The Polk County project clubs held their Achievement Day at the Osceola Presbyterian Church. County Chairman Mrs. Rex Brigham led the program themed on living well and contributing to the community. Courses included a chorus, skits, a style show, leadership ceremony, and a tea after. A $4.55 collection supported the 4-H Club Scholarship Fund.
Community notes from Swede Home show Doyle Gustafson’s birthday celebration at the Johnsons with Gustafsons and Ostberg guests. Several dinners and calls occur across families including the Larsons Fredricksons Nybergs and Bushs. Easter services and programs are announced, with visits among Lincoln and York residents.
